Why would you let a 4 year old play a video game meant for older teens? It saddens me that kids aren't allowed to be kids these days. A 15 rating means that the game is not meant for younger children. Do you even have to ask the question? Of course you shouldn't allow a 4 year old to play with that game!

If this is a serious question then the answer has to be yes...I don't think even a 10 year old has the maturity to play a 15 rated game...yes they may be able to use the controls, but is knowing the difference between fantasy and reality that is the problem...as you get older you know the difference, but in young brains it is not so clear so children can go out an act out the storyline they see in the game, resulting in violence...I hope you are joking....please.

Depends on the game, and how much supervision the child has while playing.

My son sometimes sits on my lap when I play the MMOG "City of Heroes", and I think it's rated "Teen". But my wife and I discussed the matter long ago, and we laid down the ground rules for playing "The Daddy Superhero Game" -- we don't do any fighting, we stay clear of any MOB's that might get aggro'ed, and Daddy makes sure we steer clear of any zones where we might see scary monster-type villains. Granted, that means our excursions are rather limited in scope (basically it amounts to playing with the costume creator and flying around in the "newbie" zones), but he still gets to feel like he's playing a "grown-up" game without being emotionally scarred by seeing a bunch of stuff he shouldn't see.

Most games rated 15 are for surpise surpise 15 year olds. I personally would not let a child under 12 play one. And definely not my four year old.

Would you let a four year old watch Saving Private Ryan (15 cert and awfully messy at the beginning) ?

Its not encouraging them to grow up badly, just a Bit daft and a little bit irresponsible

Um...yes. If it were appropriate for a 4 year old, it would have a rating for a 4 year old...

Stick to games for pre-schoolers. Active play (running, jumping, puzzles, I-spy, etc) is best!

For the record, we didn't allow video games for our children in our house unless they were the "old school" stuff: Pac Man, Frogger, Qubert, Asteroids, Pong, etc. Children see enough violence in the world - why on earth any parent would ENCOURAGE violence / casual sex by allowing their kids to play video games like Grand Theft Auto is beyond my comprehension!

It depends what it is...i would personally not recommend it...watching you, and seeing how you react...he will copy...there are things you do not want a child as young as 4 to see...
It does depend on what he is playing though...if it is violence...it can be damaging long term....Let him grow up naturally, innocent, and happy....Play the games when he has gone to bed...Would never let my son play those games, at that age...he is 15 now...and i am proud to be a parent..

If he should be playing games at all, let it be something child-oriented. There is no excuse to let him play a 15 rated game any more than taking him to an unsuitable movie.

You shouldn't even have to ask.

the reason a game has an age limit on it is beacuse the people who made it feel it isnt suitable to people under that age and if this game has lots of violence, guns and killing the child will be bought up thinking thats the way people treat eachother in the world

basically you are encouraging your child to be violent and who knows one day the child can use it on you, STOP the child playing the game and bin it NOW
