Hair is made out of the same substance as your nails. The outer layer of the hair looks like fish scales under a microscope. The scales lift up or open through chemical and heat abuse. When you put conditioner on the hair it fills in the gaps, so to speak, to make the hair feel smooth and look shiny.
When the hair gets really knackered the scales just lift away and split or the hair can break, rather like split or flaking nails.
This is why regular cutiing is good for the hair. Also why one should be careful when using chemicals, hairdryers and heated irons.

Split ends are caused by damage to the hair shaft. This may be as a result of heat styling or vigorous brushing, especially if you're using the wrong kind of brush. The kind made out of natural bristles are better. The best way to deal with split ends is to trim your hair. Shampoos and conditioners that promise to get rid of them aren't effective.

You can't fix them, its not possible no matter what various products may claim. You need to have them trimmed off otherwise the hair will keep splitting further and further up. You can minimise the occurence of them by having the hair trimmed regularly, limiting your use of heated styling devices and not using a brush (only a wide toothed comb) on the hair when it is wet. A good conditioner will also help.

With normal care, we can expect individual hairs, after several years, to wear-away at the tips. That's with "normal" care after *several* years.
It'll split sooner if the hair is overtly damaged with heat or harsh chemical or if natural oils are stripped away and leave the hair itself brittle or if silicone conditioners or even hard water is allowed to build up a brittle coating. It'll split from rubber bands, from bobby pins, from sharp-edged barrettes, from shoulder straps on purses and from car doors. Once a strand splits, the only remedy is to use *sharp* scissors and trim the split away from that strand.
Trimming with less than totally sharp scissors can create ready-to-split ends on basically healthy hair. If it's not split, don't "fix" it.
Some people take extreme pains to avoid splits. Hair that's never been cut or colored, etc. is sometimes called "virgin hair". The tips are very fine. Totally new growth, rather than growth after shaving, etc., always begins with fine ends. Split ends are handled individually, without chopping adjacent healthy hair.

Split ends are caused by heat damage most of the time. Straightening, curling, and coloring hair damage hair and make it brittle. The only way to "fix" split ends to get a trim every month. [:
To prevent them from coming back you should use TRESemme anti-breakage shampoo & conditioner or any other anti-breakage shampoo & conditioner. Also, use a heat protecting spray or serum all over your hair when straightening or curling.
Hope this helps!

The hair shaft becomes dry and brittle, and so it splits. You can't fix the ones you already have. You can just trim them off. But to prevent them condition your hair regularly and use a deep conditioner, concentrating on the ends, once a week.

Split ends are damaged hairs. In order to fix them, the hair needs to be cut (at least trimmed). It's caused by harsh chemicals, hair products, sun, and hair appliances, etc...

Split ends are caused by abusing the hair - tying it up, combing hard while wet, heat etc etc.
The only fix is a good trim.
