QUOTE - During the Islamic Golden Age (622 AD - 1258 AD), scholars and engineers of the Islamic world contributed enormously to philosophy, science, and technology,

Do your research. I have my serious doubts on the above.

Islam was established by Muhammad(pibuh) in year 610AD. From 629AD, Muhammad was running from his enemies. At 632 AD, Muhammad was poisoned to death by one of his captive girls. Thereafter, there were tribal wars all the way till 750 AD where Imam Husayn was slaughtered and the Abbasid Empire was established. By 945 AD, the Islamic empire was in quick decline and disintegrating and then came the crusades and the muslims were engaged constantly in wars until 1230 AD when the muslim turks rose and waged huge wars to expand the Islamic empire.

Almost NON-STOP warring and fighting by tribesmen during their “golden age”. How do you think islam can claim credit to any scientific inventions? By their mujahideens who became scientists overnight? Or by slaughtering the captives, forcing conversion, taking the captive’s knowledge & wisdom and calling it as Islamic advancement?

Islam usurps the credit of others and even calls the God of the Jews as their god and then changing the name. Is this a religion or infestation?

Bukhari 5.713:The Prophet in his ailment in which he died, used to say, "O 'Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaibar, and at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison!"

coolred83, I'm surprised that you can credit yourself with contributions that are even beyond islamic regions. Tell you what, why don't you tell us that Neil Armstrong was a muslim and brought a qur'an to the moon?

Even the numerals that you typed here were brought to you through Arabs. Don't we all call them Arabic Numerals. That's only one from the Golden Age..
Otherwise you would be using XXXYYYYZZZZLLLD etc. the Romans.

To the guy below...Yes, I know it origninated in India but Arabs brought it to Europe and elsewhere. That's why I wrote 'through Arabs'

Adoption in Europe
Main article: Arabic numerals
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu-Arabic_numeral_system
Leonardo Fibonacci brought this system to Europe, translating the Arabic text into Latin, calling it Liber Abaci. The numeral system came to be called "Arabic" by the Europeans. It was used in European mathematics from the 12th century, and entered common use from the 15th century. Robert Chester translated the Latin into English.

You are making a hoax.Golden age of Islam is a reality.Islam spread out from middle east up to Africa and Spain in Europe
Muslim soldies defeated Rome Kingdom at the east in Istam bul ..You can see its remnants in Cordoba , Turkey..Syria,Iraq and Iran. Those are the facts of Islam's golden age.
.Muhammad pbuh born in Mecca at 571 AD and he was appointed by Allah as prophet at the age of 40 (611 AD).He and his loyal followers moved from Mecca to Medina at 621 AD because there were so many their enemies who wanted to kill Muhammad pbuh.He died of fever not of poison at 634 AD at the age of 63.He remembered the poison before but it did not mean that he died of poison. His grandchild Hasan was killed by poison in Iraq by his enemy who invited him cowardly in a friendship dinner party..All humans including Muhammad prophet died with a cause no one without cause.Do you know that algebra.mathe, matics, astronomy, and medicines were founded and given to the society by muslim scientists such as Ibnu Sina.

you are assuming that the "Islamic world" consisted of arab tribes that were constantly at war with each other....not true. The Islamic empire spread rapidly after the prophets death and incorporated a vast area far beyond the arab states. so those scholars that were contributing to engineering, philosophy, science, and technology were not the ones out in the field fighting each other....obviously.

I know what you mean.
Not to diss Islam but, there are some overly zealous Muslims that frequently credit Islam for everything that was ever invented. Some Muslims may have made contributions along the way but not to the extent they like to brag about.

You are right.

It would be like the Pope claiming credit for the Enlightenment despite the fact that he pulled every dirty trick in his power to prevent it - including putting Galileo under house arrest.

Coincidence does not imply cause.

Don't hate....

Many Islamic people were prosperous(sp) during that time. NO I am not Muslim, I am christian, but I do not hate on them out of ignorance.

People fought, even Christians fought each other...England vs. France...Germany Vs. Poland....etc.

The Germans were fighting during WWII....but it does not mean German scientists were not advancing, or that great philosphers came out after the war.

You can't say ALL muslims were fighting when they weren't....that's like saying all Germans were Nazis....they weren't.

no opinion on the question...but just to correct the guy above me: "Arabic" numerals came from India.

Hindu numerals made their way to Europe through the middle east (is is between the two) and that is how they got the name Arabic numerals.
