Sadly no, I have many tats and I'll say quite a bit of people look at me in fear not knowing if they were in danger I would be the first to come to their aid.

Yep, because I will be able to cover and remove any visible piercings and tattoos (I have both) when needed. Plus the fact that the person is tattooed and pierced does not change who they are. Going deeper should be part of it in accordance with being willing to cover said body modifications when needed.
-Several of us are prime examples. Make sure they can be hidden if neccessary. My only current tattoo is on the back side of my ankle and low, most people don't even know it's there until they are looking right at it. My next one will be in the middle of my back so a shirt will always cover it and since I am going into teaching tank tops wont be worn soley in the classroom anyway. Same goes for peircings, I can remove or put something more discreat in all of them, most of the time I only have my industrial bar in anyway. Why wouldn't those of us that are serious about being professional be taken seriously if we kept an over all professional look? The profession should not make a difference as long as the person is willing to be appropriate.

Probably not. Luckily, the professions I want to go into are not so picky about it. I'm majoring in college in biology and culinary arts. Chefs don't usually worry about it cause you're not in public view. And for biology, I want to work at the zoo. I go there a lot, and a lot of the keepers have tattoos. One guy had full sleeves. Until I get where I want to go, I stick with tattoos I can hide. I don't worry about piercings cause they aren't permanent. If a job I want doesn't allow them, it's not a problem to take them out.

I think it depends on the industry. I'm in banking, and my company actually has it written in the employee handbook that we can't have any visible tattoos or piercings. One of my tats is on my upper back, and every once in a while it peeks out of my shirt...no one has really made a big deal about it other than our HR people... I also have a half sleeve, and have been "asked" not to wear white blouses anymore because it's visible through the blouse. Then casual Friday comes and people walk around in flip flops, tank tops, old faded jeans that look older than the bank itself, and of course - the women walk around with thongs sticking out of their pants. Personally, I'd rather look at a tattoo than someones *** floss, but that's just me!

I am a professional. I manage a team of amazing people. I am a hairstylist/educator for a hair product/color line company.
I am also sleeved on my right arm, and have several other pieces through out my body.
I work for a amazing company, I pay the mortage, my bills, I have a good life, and yeah I have a career not just a job.
If you take yourself seriously, then other people will too.

I work in procurement (buying) and I have several large tattoos including a full sleeve. I haven't had issues, but most people that I deal with are trying to sell me things, so they don't really care what I look like. Also, I have to wear long sleeve shirts except for "casual Fridays" anyway.

Depends on your profession. If you are a rapper, then you probably need at least 3 tattoos to be taken seriously.
If you are working fast food, the sanitation industry, or at a gas station, then tattoos are probably ok.
Otherwise, you would be advised not to get publicly visible tattoos.

When you get visible tattoos and piercings you are setting yourself up to be judged. You can't set yourself up to be judged and then judge the world for judging you.
Walking into an interview with ink all over your body and holes in your skin is no different than walking in with dirty and ripped clothes. It doesn't look professional to the employer, to the clients or to the customers.

I'm a professional and have a couple of tats and piercings. If I wasn't taken seriously I would not keep my position or be able to manage my employees.

It will depend on the field you choose. For many not only will you not be taken seriously you may not even be hired. If you are you'll be limited in how far up the corporate ladder you'll be allowed to climb. If you have the talent to climb to the top of your profession people will "overlook" the appearance issues because they need your expertise.

I would say you'll be fine with tattoo's if their in good taste, but piercings on the other hand, I would stay away from those.
