I am sorry to say this. But before giveing my openion on this question. I must comment on the horrid replies. Fellow atheist, you must practice what you preach. I read all of the replies and there might be 3 of them that arent bashing this girl, or telling her that everything she thinks is stupid. Is that not exactly what we are trying to get other religions to stop doing to us? I will probably get hate mail for this comment. But thats fine. Cause someone might actually think about it.

As for the answer. If I procrastinated in anything, it was admitting that I was an atheist. I tried for a long time to continue belonging. It is not a choice. Anymore than you can choose to see a blue cloth where a red one sits. To thine own self be true. Your beliefs, no matter what they are, are 100% true to "you" Just as mine are to me, and his are to him.

I know that I did not "choose" to not believe. As a matter of fact, if I could have choosen, I would still believe. I got ahold of a collage biology, and psychology book when I was about 12. They were so interesting to me. But I had read, and was still reading the bible also. The thing was, the science books made sence to me, and the bible spoke of things that were to outrageous even for a 12yo to concieve being reality. The books explained how things might have came to be, and the proof that shows how likely it was to be fact. It spoke of the galapagos islands. And that gave it even more merit. The psychology book taught me why we act the way we do. And what makes us do the things we do. The bible told me that women were a rib transformed just to serve her man. I continued to church until I was 17 Trying to belive, trying to belong. I asked every question you could think of, and only senceless confusion was replied. Finally when I did admit to myself and them that I did not believe, I lost alot of good friends.

I will not lie. From my point of view, being atheist is scary. To believe 100% that my conciousness is just going to stop when I die. I am nothing more than a pile of biological recyclables. That when my family and friends die, they are just dead. And to know that no matter what the situation is, I only have myself to count on. And then that gaining new friends or companions is about a hundred times harder

I dont know if this is the kind of answer you were expecting. But I hope it helps a little

May chance always favor you

Actually, it's the other way around. Thiests procrastinate in doing a little critical thinking.

bible says that some will reject God to the very end regardless of irrefutable proof. and after awhile their hearts will harden like Pharaoh's did. even with all the proof in his face he still couldn't just accept. i guess it's a matter of pride by that point. one would rather burn in hell than admit they are wrong or admit they need a Savior.

Nope, you're thinking of an agnostic. They are the ones in the middle of the road.
Being a former Christian, I've already accepted christ when I was a teenager. As I matured and began reading more into the religion, I discovered all the hypocrisy, and stupidity that lie within the scriptures and within the church itself. I also started reading about other religions and philosophies. Now, I am an atheist. I do not believe in a deity of any kind....but I do however take many of my personal philosophies from satanism. You should read the satanic bible.....its quite an interesting read.

Hey girl! Athiests don't belive there is a higher power. They believe that all this happened by chance and that we evolved from an amoeba or something. Unfortunately, I see that at this point, you have only gotten rude patronizing answers.
