Try Glucosamine. Glucosamine is a natural product that may stimulate your body to make collagens in your joints, and that might help cushion the rubbing and inflammed joint and help sooth the pain.
If you really want to try home remedy, tendons (from cows or pigs), things with lots of collagens (ie chicken feet, pig feet, shark fins, etc) may also help. If you like Chinese food, you got lots of choices.
Keep in mind these will take a while (months) before you can see any difference, since it will take months for your body to build enough collagen to help cushion the joint.

Its not a home remedy but becoming very popular with people who have joint problems and its called Glucosamine and you can buy it from a pharmacy or health food shop. They say not to have it with hot drinks, but myself and friends found it works better and quicker in a hot milk drink like milo. If you have it with cold milk, expect it to take up to a week before it starts working. Cheers and good luck.

You could try Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate from a health food store or the local pharmacy but, caution, they don't work for everyone and the Glusamine may take some time but helps for pain. Remember, this doesn't help everyone.
My orthopedic surgeon gave this to me.
