Its just now becoming a HOT issue (immigration) because Bush and the Repubs need to draw as much focus as they can away from IRAQ....BUt in Bushes first 6 years, he had Repubs to back him --- if anyone should be mad, it should be republicans for Bush and the entire party not doing something about the immigration issue.

They were smart enough to not come forward with an amnesty bill. Are you saying democrats don't give a damn if we flood this country will 20 million illegals? This is not a democrat VS republican issue, this is the American People against the government.

This issue was always on the back burner. It was an issue that Bush wants to have a victory on. And he knows that the Democrats will hand him this if it passes through both houses. Republicans want the cheap labor, while Democrats want to be the humanitarians. Independent voters want them both out to get this country back on track for Americans, and America. At least this independent does.

AgsFan - Those Presidents didn't think they needed to do anything about the illegal problem because Ronald Reagan's 1986 reform bill was to be a one time only amnesty bill, and the laws put into place were suppose to be enforced after it was signed into law. Here's the problem. The repubs, and Reagan didn't fund the border security part of that bill properly to get the job done.

In 1986 when Ted Kennedy introduced an illegal immigration
bill (that passed) he said "This is the last amnesty bill we pass"
Of course you know that Ted is one of the 3 Senators to write
this new bill.

So in response to your suggestion that Bush had 6 years to
do something about illegal immigration it goes back 14
years before Bush ever entered office.

Until Bill Clinton managed to let the Democrats lose control
of both the House and the Senate, they were under control
for 46 years, so I believe that the liberals are the ones to
blame.

Enjoy your Taco's

EDIT: Note to SoftSoul
The President does not fund anything, that is the job of
Congress and it was a Democratically controlled congress
that did not fund the immigration bill to enforce the laws.

Yes Bush is actulaly modderate on some things - on certain issues he isn't even conservative. (esp immigration)

he's sort of a mismatch...

......actualy this is one of the reasons I've never registered as a republican.

immagration is just a "talking point" they all argue about it, critisize the other side, and say it's important. When push comes to shove the hypocrites never DO anything about it.
..... to them politics is just a job - like a director of a movie they try to inspire you - and like a director of a movie they don't think always believe what they're showing you is real... - whoever gives the best presentation ("sending shivers down peoples' spines") wins the votes and the pay check. The republicans and democrates aren't that different they just start off from different poins of view....

Immigration is not a new HOT issue, the US border patrol has been arresting illegals crossing the border since at least 1979. the link below is a series of pictures that supposedly changed the world. you will have to go to picture # 21, it was taken in 1979. Any HOT issue comes and goes with generations. Of course, that site could be carefully planted propaganda. who knows.

This is a bipartisan cluster-****. The borders have been pourous since President Eisenhower deported / removed over a half a million illegals during his Operation Wet**** (yahoo won't let me type it but you can read about it here:

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0706/p09s01-coop.html )

Anyone voting for Leave No Illegal Alien Behind will live in infamy and will join Benedict Arnold and Jonathan Pollard among the worst traitors in the history of the United States.

Again, proving my theory of how hating Bush is nothing but a fad.

Illegal immigration was a much detested probelm LONG before Bush took office, good sir.

Why don't we blame the arrogant, professional politicians who have been in there so long they feel invincible?

It's time to clean the House and the Senate.

Simply vote for the one running who supports legal Americans and not illegal amnesty.

We can do this.

The impacts exist. This is exploding because they want to legalize those illegally here AND double legal immigration AND bring in new 'temporary' workers with no way to enforce them leaving, and STILL aren't addressing the impacts already unbearable on our schools, hospitals and services.

Of course they did nothing. Republicans , for the most part, are their criminal employers who hire them at slave labor wages!

Did you REALLY think that the Republicans were going to do anything when most of their factories with no bid government contracts, like the MRE manufacturer in Texas (94 Million no bid contract bid) hires illegals and DOCTORS their paperwork, however they can't hire Americans at a decent wage; and Fall River, with 100's working (over 300) working on body armor in another no bid contract! They were docked pay if they took a piss!
