The Church Gossip... and small town gossip works this way as well.

Mildred, the church gossip and self-appointed monitor of the church's
morals, kept sticking her nose in to other people's business.

Several members did not approve of her extracurricular activities,
but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused George, a new member, of
being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the
town's only bar one afternoon.

She emphatically told George (and several
others) that everyone seeing it there would know what he was doing.

George, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned
and walked away. He didn't explain, defend, or deny... he said
nothing.

Later that evening, George quietly parked his pickup in front of
Mildred's house... walked home... and left it there all night.

You gotta love George

for those that ask,no I am not trying to judge anyone, it was a question, not a statement.
here is another question not meant to judge.
did this question hit a little to close to home?

lighten up people it was a joke, not a condemnation.

Busted... unfortunately, I probably do repeat stories about coworkers to other coworkers. Or a news story or two.

Luckily I am not addicted to read the tabloid mags or watch the TV gossip shows. Unfortunately tabloid is now part regular news...

Thank you for the story of George. One for my humor file.

I do not gossip. I find the practice contemptible.

When people do gossip in front of me, I suggest they tell the person they are speaking about.

When it is clear they won't, I go to the person, and without mentioning the name of the gossip, I say the following:

1) Here is what is being said about you by one person to others: ....
2) I have told no one else nor will I, but came straight to you, as I would want to be treated, rather than not being told.
3) I hope you'll do the same if you ever hear anything about me, as gossip is unprofessional for a teacher, let alone any other professional that wants respect.

That's at least one person who will hesitate to gossip again, and may not tolerate it themselves. It's worked to clear a whole school of gossips before.

Yes I do gossip and I hate it. Especially it is bad at the beauty shop! I just almost dread going at times. Last week a lady came in and she had some masking tape when I was there. Our beauty operator said what is the tape for? She said the tape is to tape your mouth shut and there is cotton in my purse to put in our ears as I know you will take the scissors and cut the tape off. ha ha ha

I like the story you gave, has a message for us all...we just got to slow down and put us in each shoe, yeh I agree, need to be more light weight some took it to deep...some not deep enough. I spent a season of my life involved in gossip. I am blessed to no longer linger in that area. It is dangerous, it is painful, God says we are not to do it and its best we do all we can to stay clear of that...be blessed.

The tongue is a powerful member of our body. The Bible warns about gossip. It destroys.
I either walk away from people who do such, or change the subject, or gently tell them that I don't want to hear it.

My what a long dissertation to prove a point. I have not graduated to the point where my conversation is "yeah or nay". I sometimes talk about what someone said or did. I am still growing. No no one has gotta love George and though we may not appreciate Mildred - we do not have to fear her either.

Go George! I wonder if Mildred learnt a lesson?

Indifference is the real root of evil. George didn't defend his honor. Furthermore he chose to berate anothers. Does religion teach one to belittle another when their views do not match their own? Clearly George's intellect is better than that of Mildred's, but it wasn't high enough for him to take the high road.

So much for turning the other cheek.

I believe someone said "DO YOU JUDGE?". Well....the reality is that everyone gossip about someone or something! It is not an easy thing to stop doing because everywhere I go, I always something to say!
