An intensivist is a qualified specialist physician who has training in critical care medicine who provides life support or organ support systems and manages critically ill patients in intensive care units. It is a specialty that requires further training or fellowship after the primary residency training. Thus an intensivist works in ICU (intensive care unit) but not all doctors working in ICU are intensivist.
