seriously. if you're going to start a system with ranks, I would think that you should start at the bottom rank and pass each test (whatever that may mean) so you earned your rank and its not just a title. If you want to do all the tests in one day, fine, but if you call yourself something like 7 dan master instructor or something else, no body will take you seriously if you haven't been in the trenches and done the sequence.

I probably wouldn't give myself a rank at all, because I would look at it as a constant work in progress, and learning process.
Shining example would be Bruce Lee. He created Jeet Koon Do, which was a combination of Wing Chun, Boxing, Kenpo, and Greco Roman Wrestling. He never gave himself any kind of rank whatsoever, and he was constantly perfecting his style. I would feel the same way.

If you are starting your own system, you will have specific things that your students will need to accomplish in order to achieve specific ranks. White belts will need to accomplish certain stances, certain attacks and blocks to achieve the next level and so on.
You will have to honestly assess where your skills lie within your own system to determine your own rank. You will place yourself at that rank, hopefully with some room for growth. Surely you don't think you've perfected your Art, do you? :)

Honorable Worshipful Supreme Ultimate Grand Master Chief!
I'd also wear a black hood and a big chain necklace with a heavy gold medallion with a big Ruby in the middle. Why? So i can create my own martial arts cult and be worshipped by men and women who will think of me as a god.

If you were to do that you'de have to make up totally new names for the ranks and titles - only because if you called yourself any of the "ordinary" ranks or titles everyone would know you're bullshit eh?
Names that sound truly like rank smells - don't you think?
