I have always been told that there was no rain before the flood, but a heavy dew each night. If the earth had a heavy enough dew, it is quite possible that it had never rain before. This would have made the people think Noah was crazy, water falling from the sky.

You are right. I was thinking about this very topic today. But what it does say in the bible is that at night, God caused a MIST to come up and water the ground in the garden of Eden. Not rain. And there is a Hebrew word for rain: Genesis 2:5 & 6 states, "And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not yet caused it to rain upon the earth (Strongs #4305 = "ma tawr" - to rain, to cause to rain) and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered (literally "quaffed" or "irrigated") the whole face of the ground."
Another thing is that many christian scientists believe that the earth prior to Noah's flood was covered by an ice or water canopy, and that a catastrophe, like an asteroid struck the canopy causing the rains to fall and the earth to tilt on its axis. Even non-christian scientists concur that the earth appears to be tilted on its side. That would explain and fully agree with what Genesis 2:5 and 6 says here without contradicting it, and fully explains how plants and animals and mankind survived until the first rains occurred.

There was no rain..just a mist that would come up to wet the plants. There was a canopy of water surrounding the earth...harsh sunlight had not shown on the earth...it was a pleasant temperature at all times. Then the canopy burst and the rain came in a deluge.
That's why the people were laughing at Noah..there was no rain to bring a flood. But Noah was a preacher of righteousness and he talked to them for 40 years warning them of what was to come.
He and his family built the ark just as Jehovah told them to. And when the time was right Jehovah shut and locked the door. Then the rains came and swept them all away.
This was a parallel for our day.....we should be getting onto the spiritual ark right now. We should be listening to the out cries that the end is near. Soon God will stop the preaching work...then he will close the spiritual ark and lock it...those left on the outside will perish.

The only mention of rain, before the flood, was to say that God had not caused it to rain on the Earth. (Genesis 2:5)

There is no mention of volcanos either but we know they existed long before biblical times, during biblical times, and at every time since. So what is the significance of something NOT being mentioned in the Bible?? Plants certainly existed before Noah. How do you suppose they received the water they needed to survive??

No there was no rain from the sky. It came up from the ground in spout form to water and give what was needed. After Noah it came from the sky.
