Humans created "The God Concept" to control other humans with the thought of guilt and fear. And you know what? It has actually worked on millions and millions of people for centuries.

It's so wonderfully convenient to their mythology that "god has always been" but that "EVERYTHING" must have a designer or creator.
Because if god doesn't need a creator, then NOTHING does. And that would rip their world apart. They're so fond of absolutes.
MAN created god in his own likeness and the likeness of dictators the world over.

those who believe in the Big Bang theory believe that God may have been alone, only himself, and wanted to know himself, he therefore chose to explode himself into zillions of specks of lite. Each speck is a piece of God himself and an individual soul searching lifetime after lifetime to remember who he is by experiencing who he is not.....this explains reincarnation and afterlife very simplistically. After all is said and done the individual soul enlightens to the point of reunification with the light at which point the individual soul loses it's need to exist alone and becomes the missing part of God it always was. Through out all of the process God is able to know himself.... Personally I believe if this is not the fact it is very close to the truth.....

Having seen some of the answers given it seems that people really are that stupid. They say that God has always been, and will always be, he transcends time and space, and therefore does not require a creator, as he is the creator (?!). But then they turn around and say to the non-believers that everything needs a creator, something cannot come from nothing etc.
Sometimes their idiocy makes my head hurts.

When I was younger I was so baffled by the same question.
But right now I understood what a god is and who God is. God is a perfect being, all powerful, all mighty. He does not have a creator because He is the creator. He's just there since the beginning of time and will live forever.

Young Lady - You have asked a very intricate question.
In order to answer this intricate question one must have a tiny amount of belief or faith within them self.
In order for this question to be answered in "Truth", one must
know beyond a shadow of doubt just who they really are themselves.
If you don't know who you really are and who had a hand in your creation other than your earthly parents, then this question must go unanswered, till the time that you meet the one in question.
Sorry, wish I could be more help to you.
Good luck in finding the answer to your question.
After 60 years of searching, I have found the answer to this question.
This answer must be found by the one asking the question, and cannot be shared with others that are searching.
Simple fact, if you have no faith, this wonderful question will never be answered!
P.S ......I love your purple hat!

The term "GOD" itself is a man made word. Every culture has a different name for who they believe to be the creator. Whether humans have the need to believe in some sort of higher being that has caused everything that IS or whether they think we are parasites on the earth, we have to realize that there must be a reason...and that reason has nothing to do with any man made religious doctrine.

God never required a creator/beginning, because God created time and space, therefore God is timeless/eternal and infinite! Having said this, God has always existed! God is beyond time and space! God bless you!
