Apparently a Dallas lawyer thought people would, and came up with a web site USPatriotcompanies.com to advertise employers who pledge not to hire illegal immigrants. It is only 4 weeks old and has had 15,000 hits, per this article.

What do you think?

We have paid more to be sure we had legal worker. My question on any job....are your employees legal? If not, forget it.

It's a step in the right direction, but too late in the game.
If Big & midsized business paid legals the wages they deserved, things will cost more and they would not be competive overseas and in the US. Most companies are now getting "documented workers" imported via agencies - who's checking the real legality of their documented workers? This is the reason small and mid-size companies are using agencies to hire workers (plausable deniability).
What we are forgetting is our current government is moving forward to a "world economy" and "world government". The damage is not reversable. Why do you think Cheney is claiming he's not part of the Executive or Legislative Branches of our government and is accountable to us?

The thing is, that the hiring of illegals should have meant a decrease in cost for the product. All it meant was that the company got to pocket more money by 'saving' on the employee salaries.

So, in essence, if they hire legals at a real wage, it shouldn't cost us anymore money to purchase the product.

But I would spend more money to make sure my money was staying here rather then going to an illegal.

Yes I would..In fact, I do.
There is a small landscaping and trouble-shooting company here. It is owned by a good friend who is black. His work is exceptional. He charged us about fair rate to rid our garden and yard of an area of poison ivy taking over and destroying plants and flowers. He has 'lost' customers to illegals, but usually gets them back due their dissatisfaction with the illegals.
They did the clean up, replaced the plants. That was over a year ago and still poison ivy free.
A neighbor had a similar problem. He hired a pair of illegals, I know they were illegal, for they were arrested several months ago for drug-trafficking. It cost him about $150 less than we paid for a larger area with the problem. This spring, he had to hire the same company we hired for the poison ivy came back.
You get what you pay for in most cases.

It does make a difference in what is charged, no matter if illegals make the product or not. Have you been to Walmart lately? How much of their merchandise is American made? And then look at how the unions were negotiated out of workers lives, and now most workers make less. Then they make more concessions, and their jobs still go to illegals and is sent over seas.

THat's the problem with illegal immigrants. THose who are honest are at a disadvantage and are more likely to go bankrupt. THose who cheat makes tons of money.

Dar, I am an interior designer....I work for many people needing remodeling jobs....Guess what? I could hire illegals ALL day, I live on the border you know, BUT I DON'T AND I CAN'T, my conscious won't let me.....Because I know it is against the law, sure I would save my clients a butt load of money, but instead, I call tons of contractors, on the phone all day, trying to find the best contractors with the best prices....At the end of the day, I feel better about myself....You know people ask me, don't you know any painters in Juarez who could charge cheaper? I do know some, but I am not going to risk my career or my integrity by hiring illegals....Anyways, I still have sympathy for these workers, but I could never hire them for, it is against the law.....

Id gladly pay a little bit more for a company that doesnt hire immigrants. Insures citizens get well paying jobs.

I also go out of my way sometimes to shop at the local mom and pop shops instead of walmart, etc.

I think that Americans are having a very difficult time coming to terms with the fact that much of the economic growth in this country is based on cheap, undocumented, non-benefit migrant workers.

The amount of money in federal and state resources they absorb is a minuscule nothing compared to their impact on the U.S. economy. Simple math. This website represents an insignificant portion of private business, most of which will not comply.

Free-market economies don't operate that way, the U.S. relies on a system whereby companies are allowed to hire whomever they want, and enact structural changes (massive layoffs) for the bottom-line. Elasticity, and illegal immigrants are part of that.

No. But I would not support a business that does hire illegal immigrants. If someone claims that he has to charge me morer to stay in business, I don't care what the reason is, he won''t be staying in business on my dollar. I work hard for my money and I will not be giving it away for reasons like that.

I only go by references when I get work done to my house. So, unless you did a good job for someone I know, then I don't call.
