If they are too far into their obsession, it is extremely difficult to turn back without help. Usually, after they reach their weight goal, they still think they are too fat, or they still aren't pleased with the way they look, so it continues...

Most anorexics (like me) don't have a goal weight. I didn't eat because I considered it a waste of time and product (put it in the mouth and a day later offload it and then do it again--yuck) and because a little pooch on my belly bothered me. I weighed 104 at 5'11" when I was 20 and 120 when I was 42.
(If I could, I wouldn't eat now but because I'm on meds for a different disorder, I have no choice.) I still believe it's a waste of time and product, and if I got down to 120 again, I would want to shave off just a little more, so there's never a time when I stop. Habit? Perhaps.

Actually, in an anorexic mentality, they don't know when they've reached that goal. The lack of food affects their ability to properly process ideas and thoughts, and makes them think they're fatter and heavier than they really are. The only way a deeply routined anorexic can get out of their state is by doctoral support and coaching. In the novel 'Even If It Kills Me' by Dorothy Joan Harris, it portrays an anorexic who sees nothing wrong in her ways. Eventually, the anorexia nervosa becomes so severe she has to be forced into the hospital by her family doctor.

Hope that answers it!

no they can't stop. i've been a off/on balimic and anorexic for 5 years and one of my best friends dieded of it. you have to go to a hospital and go to a support group. trust me people who are anorexic aren't that way because they have a weight goal. they are loosing weight because they think they're fat.

Your question doesn't involve anorexia, but dieting.
Anorexia is and Obsessive/Compulsive Disease in which the person afflicted with it tries to control their anxieties by controlling how much ( little ) they eat.

first it is NOT something a person chooses to be or do....... it is a mental disorder that is a life time threat and fight.... it just takes over a person and they lose control..... they think it is having control but in reality it is not..... God bless
