I object to them, because they have extremely low credibility and most are dated at least 200 years later than the traditional gospels.
Basically many of the traditional Gospels have similar messages, and share events. The Gnostic Gospels are very far out there, and seem to go with nothing we have describing Jesus from other sources of his life. This does not make them untrue, it just means it seems highly unlikely with the current evidence we have of Jesus.

In a nutshell, the catholics and christians don't like the Gnostic Gospels because it undermines their whole structure. It exposes all of the inconsistencies and lies. To be honest, the thing that turned me against christianity permanently was after i read the Gnostic Gospels and realised just HOW BIG a lie christianity really is. The Gnostics were Pagan. Jesus was Pagan and the Gnostic Gospels are the true teachings of Jesus, which were PAGAN.

Reading the gnostic gospels helped move me from theism to atheism. I realized that the gospels were ALL just fictional stories. Even though they are supposedly dated so much later than the other gospels, there's a great deal of overlap. Christian leaders don't want people to inspect the approved canon too closely or analyze which stories are "real" and which are "fiction" since it undermines their ignorance-based "faith."

They don't like them because the Gnostic gospels emphasize the HUMAN Jesus, and play down the Divinity.
They also don't like the fact that Jesus was in fact spreading the existing teachings of the Essenes, rather than originating His message.

The creation myth of the gnostics scare people (me too since they're silly... but I do subscribe to the Biblical account and don't see it as myth but the truth I see, although on a spiritual truth basis), but so do the untraditional teachings of Jesus Christ as an initiator of the Christian mysteries of the secret of the Kingdom of God. This is true even though even in the Bible Jesus Christ says: "The Kingdom of God is within you", and Paul's true epistles are quite gnostic as well when viewed spiritually. I treasure the Gospel of Thomas next to the Bible, and hold it almost as highly as the Bible, it has many related quotes from the canonical gospels, and I appreciate its spiritual message.
From it and the Bible, seeing the spiritual message of Jesus Christ, I have learned who I am and where I come from, and I know myself, and my life has truly never been the same after I was initiated spontaneously in spiritual ecstasy myself by Baptism of the Holy Spirit through my Saviour and Master Jesus Christ. I was enlightened to love and eternity in God, united spiritually in God, I truly have eternal life that has begun in this life because of discovering the Kingdom within through Jesus Christ. I have lost all earthly desires as well as "myself", the old carnal ego.
PS. The Gospel of Thomas is dated, like the Gospel of John, as the earliest gospels of Jesus Christ, from late in the 1st century.

Perhaps a lot of Christians object to the gnostic gospels because they would have to look within themselves--something they try to avoid.

Personally I don't oppose them. I think some people have a problem with them because they don't think they are authentic. How they would know that for sure is beyond me, especially since some of the other books in the Bible were written later.

Here's a fact: The Book of Judith says Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Assyria, but he was actually the king of Babylon.

Silly silly silly.
Have you read them? They are not reliable and they put very unlikely words to the mouth of Jesus. They did not meet the criteria to go to the Bible. Feel free to read them. There are many good reasons they did not make it to the Bible, one thing is the time line.
