According to Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son (Jesus), and Holy Spirit are the one God. Mary is the biological mother of Jesus, that is, God who came to earth in human form. So, Mary is the mother of God as it is limited to the incarnation who is Jesus. Roman Catholics place great emphasis on this fact; whereas, the protestants do not believe her role deserves any more honor than the other great saints of the New Testament. Hope that helped.

For us adults, what we're dealing with is the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit are all one and the same God.
But for a child, I would say simply that Jesus is the Son of God and that means that he is God, too. This is a fancy way of saying that Mary is his mother.

Catholic use relationship "Jesus is God and Mary is the mother of Jesus therefore Mary is the mother of God". This is logically wrong. If this is correct then we can say that, Cow eat grass and goat eat grass therefore Cow is a Goat. Mary is just a mere human that need salvation. We can never as Mary to intervene in our prayers because she is not omniscience (all knowing). A thousand of devotees who always pray to Mary cannot be heard since she is not Omniscience.

first and foremost i am not a catholic.however it is my understanding that catholics believe that Mary is indeed the mother of God as Jesus Christ is God robed in flesh. However, i would disagree with that by saying that God ever was and always will be, He was not born by our conventional means, hence God has no mother. Jesus on the other hand, who is the expressed image of God,was born of the virgin Mary, 4 the sole purpose of man's redemption. God left the splendor of heaven, took unto Himself a human form and died on Calvary's cross 4 the remission of the sins of the world.

Because God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are 3 manifestations of 1 element. Just as water, ice and gas.

Because most people have been taught wrong. You're right, Mary IS the mother of Jesus who is not God but God's son.
When we don't examine the scriptures ourselves and let others tell us things and we accept them as fact, we only hurt ourselves.
Actually, there is no basis for the trinity....it IS NOT taught in the bible at all. Jesus set the proper example in teaching God's word. In prayer he said "Your word is TRUTH" and he was praying to his father JEHOVAH [john 17:17 ]
Today, God's people do not teach their own ideas. they believe that the Bible is God's word, and therefore firmly base their teaching on it. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Check Matthew 1:16. and 2 Timothy 3:16-17

If Jesus isn't God, than we're all in big, big trouble.
When Jesus was born a man in Bethlehem, which part of him was not God?
And if ALL of Jesus is in fact, God, and Mary is his mother, than what shall we call her, except THE MOTHER OF GOD?
Denying Mary's proper title serves only to deny the truth about Jesus Christ ... that he is true God and true man ... and no one can ever separate the two.
Mary is holy because God made her that way, by means of his grace.
Mary is truly the Mother of God because Jesus truly is God, and Mary truly is his mother.
No exceptions or qualifications exist.

Because we believe in the Trinity, Jesus is essentially God. Therefore, Holy Mary, Mother of God is truly the mother of God.
