I'm 13 and I'm a singer/actress. My dream is for broadway and I would really think getting an agent is necessary. The problem is, I have no idea how to get one. How do you get one? How much does it actually cost? HELP! Thank You [I know I'm really young but I still would like to know, even if I do not get an agent right now. Thank You]

I would suggest focusing your energy on lessons and preparing for college auditions during your senior year of high school. Many college offer what's called a Senior Showcase where they take the senior musical theater majors to NYC and invite agents to hear the performers. Many get agents this way. Otherwise, go to workshops or private vocal coaches in the city and ask for advice. If they think you're ready, they will help you out, if they don't, listen to their advice. These are the people who know what's happening in the city. You can still go to open calls for Broadway shows and audition for regional theater. As you continue to do shows you'll be more valuable to an agent. After all, you want an agent who really believes in you and can use your past experience to help get people to hear you. Its reasonable to pay a small retainer fee ($100 a month or so) if its much more, ask around. There are very legitimate agents who may charge more and there are a lot of non-legitimate agents who will take whatever they can get out of you.

Also, if you're really good, and get a lot of work, the agents will come to you. And that's the best position to be in, because then YOU make the rules.

Edited to add: Check out the Ross Reports http://www.rossreports.com Its the most recognized listing of agents and casting directors in the business.

I just turned 13 today and I'm a model/singer/actress. You can look up agents online but never give away any actual money untill u've seen this person or place. My mother agent is JohnCasablancas and that's more so for T.V. than broadway and that was a few thousand dollars but trust me when I say that it's worth it, it pays itself off after ur first gig, if it's T.V., plays,or broadway.

You have to be in or near a city that has talent agents. Call them and tell them you are seeking representation and arrange for an interview. A reputable agent does not charge the people they represent, they get a small percentage of the contracts they get for their clients.

Start your career by building your skills and experience. Take lessons in singing and dancing. tryout for everything.

Look up agents in your local phone book ! If there's not one in your local book see if you can find a phone book from someone out of town.
