That’s why we have free will, without temptation we would never be put to any test that let our true colors shine through. If we never had to choose between good and evil, there would be no choice, and all he would have accomplished was to create robots that were programmed to love him. The lord wants us to truly love him as he loves us, and the only way to be sure of that is to test us. He gives us free will, so that we can make that choice. All of the struggles in your life are simply god trying to get you to come closer to him. He works this way because usually when someone is at the bottom of the bucket, they begin to look for help and hopefully they will look to him. So basically, why would we need a savior in a perfect world? Without the devil, he would be in a different business, and things would be much different.

I'm agreeing with Marty Moose above. However, might I also point out that "our" devil is energized and made powerful through our own wickedness. People - that is to say, evil people - are something of an energy source which fuels the whole devil power supply.
I think God has given every living thing - even a devil - free will to make their own choices. Good or bad.

Due to false "religions",people dont have true knowledge and think God has to be opposed with Devil! It's just a misconception.
In the material world, where God sent us just as a King send rebels to jails,we are free to do any action as we please:good or bad,and someone guides us to do evil[he can be called Satan or Maya, and he's just doing it on the order of God:he's a servant of God,to test men]
Without guidance,we mostly obey to Satan's orders, but get the ractions immediately or later, even in future lives:suppose Satan asks someone to kill another man,and the man accepts it:he has to bear the consequences and be killed later.
So guidance is necessary in order to evolve towards God inthe spiritual world. Priests and religious men are supposed to do this job,but most of them do not have the knowledge,as the "sacred" books have been turned into Satan's instruments, and no knowledge can thus be aquired through them!
So,still God keeps sending His agents in order to rectify the situation, and the latest representative is Srila Prabhupada, who translated sacred texts into english, and from this to other languages.
Original teachings of Jesus are also at essene.net,as Jesus was vegetarian as all agents of God.

Because he doesn't want to take over your life, your world, and your future and make a zombie out of you. He wants to give you peace of mind, and contentment. ("He who has eyes, let him see, and ears, let him hear") The Devil was loosed so that God could distinguish between those who really have faith in him, and the rest. If you chose to follow God, you will become equipped to handle anything the Devil can throw at you, and have eternity in paradise to look forward to after life on this tiny planet is done. If you choose the Devil, then your pretty much on your own. (well, you know)

The devil came about as a product of Lucifer's free will, however, Satan does play a role in God's ultimate plan, God did not make the world to be perfect, we already blew our chance in a near-perfect world.

We are born again through Jesus. Jesus was tempted by the devil and overcame the temptation. The devil is a stumbling block for the unbeliever. He has no power over God or his children.

i took a course in school about the doctrines of the Bible.under the headings of theology and angelology it talked about why God created Satan and the purpose of it.God created Satan to represent evil.satan is evil.By creating satan and allowing him to fall from grace God is essentially allowing us to choose.God does not want anyone to come to him because he was forced to.God is loving and merciful. He wants us to be saved and come to Him because we believe it as true and accept that.he doesnt want us to be robots. That's why he created us with a free will. The only power satan has is what God gives him.and the only reason for that is to weed out the people who,no matter how hard they are pressed, will not believe in God.i hope i have answeredyour question sufficiently.

Because you chose the devil. Man chose the devil and obeyed the devil instead of God.

Lucifer, by his free will left God started his own belief. His new belief was that there is no Higher Power then him and he was going to make up his own rules about life and nobody could tell him what to believe or what to do. This is all in the bible. It reminds me of Atheists and Agnostics and how they started off and will continue with out God. Free will It is.......

God's fight with Satan is not over yet. Satan is also powerful.
This evil is personal (not abstract). It refers to Satan, the angel who opposes God. The devil (dia-bolos) "throws himself across" God's plan and his work of salvation. Satan ("a liar and the father of lies") is the "deceiver of the whole world" (Jn 8:44, Rev 12:9). Through him, sin and death entered the world. By his definitive defeat all creation will be freed "from the corruption of sin and death". "The one begotten by God he protects and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are of God and the whole world is in the power of the evil one" (1 Jn 5:18-19). "The Lord keeps you from the evils of your adversary the devil. One who entrusts himself to God does not dread the devil" (St. Ambrose).
Cast Out (2853)
At his death, Jesus won this victory over the "prince of this world" (Jn 14:30) and Satan "was cast out" (Jn 12:31, Rev 12:10). Then, Satan pursued the woman but she was preserved from sin (Immaculate Conception) and from death (Assumption). He was "angry with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring" (Rev 12:7). Therefore, we pray, "Come, Lord Jesus" (Rev 22:17) since only his coming will deliver us from the Evil One.
Peace and blessings!
