One of my best friends does this, and she is one of the kindest, most emotionally strong, and above all else, incredible people I've ever met.
I'd respect anyone who showed up at church like this; it's on the inside that counts.

I wouldn't assume anything other than the obvious. They are either someone that is goth or emo or something like that. They enjoy those types of clothes. I wouldn't assume anything. I would think they don't mind people looking at them oddly because it's not a normal church outfit. To say that someone isn't going to think oddly of them is a lie. Some people will and the person wearing it will KNOW that and probably not mind. I like some stuff like that too, but I don't wear it to church because church is special and I tend to dress special as well.

OOOOh- Someone new in church!... if she's new in the area, she'll need friends... what's her name?... where's she from?... what's her address/ph #?... where does she work?... family?...
(Oh, and I'd probably go over to her after services and ask her these questions... find common ground... invite her over for dinner afterwards...)
Biblical backup?? Uh, when I'm in a new place, don't know anyone, I'd like someone to come introduce themselves... Guess this is an application of the Golden Rule...

like a hospital is for the sick, churches are for the spiritually ill. so if you recieve a good reception it means that the persons in this church are farther along to being PERFECT. All churches will accept the penintant at heart. however if a person continues in their bad ways....you may know they are the rebelious type!

I would think that it was great that they were at church, and learning things about the church would help them. Then I would probably introduce myself and see if there was anything I could do to make them feel more welcome. Everyone needs to feel that they belong somewhere, and if I could be the person to help them feel that way, then I have done some good for someone else.

I would assume nothing. Their "unusual, black, hot topic ensemble" is their world.

15 years ago I WAS that person. Now I wear a suit and tie. I would be thinking I'd like to meet them and hopefully study the bible with them, the same courtesy that was shown me!

I would assume that they have a lot of (their parents') money to blow on stupid fashions. I would also assume that they fight with their parents often, despite the fact that they buy them everything. I would assume that they would not be intelligent enough to hold a decent conversation with, and thus I would not even bother. I'd also expect them to spontaneously yell, "MCR RULES! JARED WAY IS SO HOTT! CHEESE MUFFINS! DOODLE POPS!" I wouldn't back this up biblically, I'd back this up from experience.

Ummm...isn't one of the major tenants in Christianity "Judge not lest ye be judged"?
I would assume that if they came into Church, they were there to celebrate their faith. That's it.
