Theists believe that God always existed and creates the universe. Atheists believe that matter always existed and big bang started the universe.
Is matter/hydogen atoms/protons = atheists god? (it started all life)

Brett A,
If there is no big bang, there is no universe, no planets, no hot springs and thus no life, don't you agree?

there has to be more than physical matter to have a logical beggining of the universe ... and in that context God makes more sense imo ...

In a sense yes. To an atheist, matter is the highest level they have for thier existance, matter is their creator. Thus matter is sorta the same concept to them as my concept of God.
Part of my frustration with this whole debate, is how both sides seem to want to put God in a box of thier own understanding. Both Christians and atheists alike want to confine God to a human understanding of consciousness and being. Problem is, if God the creator of the universe does exist, then his size is beyond all human description and comprehension. The reason that there is no concrete evidence of God, is for the same reason that an ant can't prove that the moon exists. God is beyond us, too big for us. If God does exist, he is not some Zeus on a cloud, but a universe swallowing reservoir of knowledge and information who exists in a state beyond matter and material. Our finite minds are incapable of adequately describing infinite. You cannot swallow an object bigger than yourself, just like you cannot explain every detail of the universe in one sentence. God is the sum total of everything we know of this universe plus more, his purportion to this universe is the reason why he be completely readily by words or anything else in a universe infinitely smaller than him.
Since the energy in the universe is not infinite, science has basically proved that the universe had a finite beginning... and what was that beginning besides God?

I cannot answer this, I just wanted to say:
I love the way Christians use Taoist philosophy when it suits them.
Atheist means they do not believe in "God" in any sence, to start worshiping molecules would be a contradiction imediately making them Theists and causing a paradox within your question.

But then we wouldn't believe in that either! *Sigh* The definition of an atheist is someone who has no belief in a great being whatsoever. Matter is not necessarily a being. And not all Atheists believe that. So, you've generalized, *and* created your own definition for Atheists and gods.

I'm a Christian, but I do not think that atheists believe that matter always existed. Matter originated from the Big Bang.

God IS The Big Bang. All of it, including you and I and everyone. Everything from before the bang (eternal) and on forever (eternal again) and ever. The stars, the planets, the whole universe all expanding is God. No Religion Needed. Amen.

"big bang started ...all life" ... Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! ... ~8,485,213,893 YEARS LATER!!!
You're *actually* connecting the Big Bang & Origins of Life?
* * * STAY IN SCHOOL ... S T U D Y ... S C I E N C E ! * * *
"matter always existed..." ... Atoms (matter) Did NOT Start Synthesizing Until ~600 - 900 K Years AFTER The BB.
[Edit]: Re YOUR Add. Dtls.: NO, I do NOT agree. ... I do NOT attribute the Big Bang to Starting My Car; nor to Starting any Forest Fire; nor to Starting the Last Great Ice Age; nor to Starting the Rocky Mountain Folding; nor to Starting Life. That's a Supremely Silly Attempt at Causation Attribution. *Everything* would by 'started by the BB' by your 'logic'.

No. You cannot just go around assuming that all Atheist believe the same things. It is not a religion where everyone believes the same. It isn't a religion period.

There is only One God, the God who created the
Universe and everything in it. (doesn't matter whether
you believe it or not...that's the truth) . Atheism is simply
a choice to not believe in a God.

You are wrong about atheists. The term covers ONLY the disbelief in gods. Nothing else.
