I'm very concerned with Protein intake and trying to gain muscle mass. I did a lot of research, a lot of it over yahoo answers. Now, heres what I'm hearing when I research: A person who is looking to gain muscle mass, needs to have as much in protein grams per day as you weigh. IE: Weigh 180, you need 180 grams of protein. This can be obtained in foods, but its hard to get all that in food, thats where the bars and powder come in to play. It also says you should work out every other day, and make sure to take the shake within 20 minutes of working out for maximum results. So, after hearing this I started planning a diet to try to get around 175 grams of protein a day. I continued to research and came across articles saying too much protein can be serious to your kidneys and liver, over working them, and giving you a much higher chance of osteoporosis down the road. They were saying they would suggest 50-60 grams of protein per day as opposed to 175. Thats a BIG difference. help?

if your trying to gain muscle mass take a gram per body pound but you have to make sure to workout enough or itll just turn into fat

Swimming is a cardiovascular form of exercise that stimulated type 1 (slow twice) muscle fibers. You are not going to put on any considerable amount of muscle mass through that method of training. The Protein bar is fine but that's really not the issue. Also, make sure that the main ingredient is whey protein NOT soy. While both are complete proteins whey is much higher quality and has a substantially high biological value (BV.) Furthermore, if you have a fast metabolism then the excess cardio will lessen any potential muscular gains. Even if you don't want to look like a bodybuilder/power-lifter you should focus on a more strength training and less cardio.

Include lots of protein in your diet and make sure to have some protein after a gym session (which should include weights and core work) which restores your torn muscles. Protein shakes are good for this. Read more:

your protien intake should not be more than 30% of your daily intake. Or you do indeed risk kidney damage etc. The human body requires a balanced diet to function optimally. The best way to build muscle mass is slowly and over time. Low weight, many reps if you lift weights. Or gradually increasing the number of exercises you do, like push ups or pull ups. Osteoporosis is related more to use of anabolic steroids (illegal by the way), a balanced diet will prevent this for a man as long as he stays away from the "roids".

All of my trainers have told me 1-2 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Make sure you're taking a multivitamin AND a calcium supplement. If you're doing that and getting enough carbs, you'll be fine.

It is supposed to be 1 gram per 1 pound of your body weight. Also you need to buy a good quality protein. I love Essence by Syntrax. It is really good and I got results!
