I don't think Jesus was Joseph's son. What I think happened was Mary turned up pregnant one day, and Joseph knew the baby wasn't his, so they came up with this, "Oh, no, honey, I never had sex, it's god's baby" story.

The council of Nicea was only the agreement of consensus on the scripture that was written only 30 to 50 years after Jesus' death and resurrection. And the prophet Isaiah confirmed it would happen 700 years BEFORE it happened. Remember that Joseph knew the baby was not his because he wanted to divorce Mary. The fact that it had to be "declared" has no bearing on it's authenticity, only to the turmoil in the established church at the time.

According to the Protoevangelium of James, A.D. 120, concerns about ceremonial cleanliness required that Mary have a male protector who would respect her vow of virginity. Joseph was "chosen by lot to take into [his] keeping the Virgin of the Lord." His duty to guard Mary was taken so seriously that when Mary conceived, Joseph had to answer to the temple authorities. So Mary’s betrothal to Joseph was not in conflict with her vow of virginity.
While this source is non-canonical, it supports the Biblical story that Mary's conception was by the Holy Spirit.
Peace and blessings!

The same exact thing happened when my mom was dating my dad and she wasn't putting out for him. She was like"I'm a virgin. I don't know how this happened. It must be a miracle."
It was either Joseph's drinking buddie Artie...the one who could never look him in the eye when they got really loaded (or Uncle Artie which was what Mary insisted that Jesus call him) or maybe John the Baptist.
If you think about John did act like a parent of an NBA prospect promoting there childs career 24/7.

According to "The History of Joseph the Carpenter" as told by Jesus himself,Joseph was 90 years old when he married the 12 year old Mary.
This makes it highly unlikely that he was the father and begs the question,Who was?

You know enough about the Bible to know that it teaches the virginal conception of Jesus, but you want to deny it so you have to come up with a bogus claim about it being declared 350 years after she died.
Why not just say the Bible is wrong? Possibly because you know that that would not be original.

mary wasn't a virgin, it was just a mistranslation the christians chose to use. Ask a rabbi, she was actually just a 'young maiden'. But, from an early christian perspective, it was certainly an attractive thought that jesus was immaculately conceived because its much more believable that he would be the prophesied messiah if she was knocked up by god than if she was just a little hoe boning her boyfriend joseph.

Oddly enough the word virgin was different meanings then and now. At the time of christ virgin meant unmarried. Today it means untouched by man. It is possible for mary to have a virgin birth using the meaning in christs time. And as the meaning changed you can see how the meaning of the birth of christ changed.

The Bible is believed as being true by Faith. That is what Faith is. Believing what you do not "know". You do not even "know" that Mary's virginity was declared 350 years after she died. But it seems that you have a strong Faith in that being true.

"Was declared"
in actuality such dogma was not declared then but rather confirmed. apostolic writings not included in the bible confirm without a doubt that the apostles and close disciples affirmed this belief since the time of Jesus.
many people misunderstand the nature of church councils that declare certain dogmas through history . they call councils to confirm teachings taught through tradition from the time of christ. they dont just invent new beliefs. it is because of disputes that arise and alternate teachings that councils are called to declare official dogma by the pope and council of bishops.
