illinois state laws say 21 no exceptions.

ah crap just talked to the guys at tattoo factory on broadway and montross, they said it was lowered in '06 to 18. no exceptions. no parental permission for minors. 18 and only 18.

We answer this one so much! PLEASE, to those responding, if you don't know the laws in Illinois, stop saying you can have parental permission. It is 18 and only 18 - it used to be 21 until January 1, 2006.

Parents cannot interfere with the law on this one!! IF she has a tattoo, she did not get it at a legitimate studio or certainly one that is respected by the tattoo community!!

In order to get a tattoo in Illinois you have to be 40 years old. Why would you want a tattoo .? They are an indication of a very low class individual so why would you pay good money and go through pain to look like trash? You should talk to an older person that has a tat to and see how they feel about having the nasty looking thins on them now.

That girl is most likely lying.
You can get a tattoo when you're 18.
However, you can also get one when you're 16, but you will need a parent's consent. Reputable tattoo artists will need proof that the parent that you bring is your actual parent (birth documents, etc.)
Reputable tattoo artists will not tattoo a girl going into 8th grade, even if she has a parent to consent.
So your classmate is lying, unless she got her tattoo from an unreputable tattoo artist.
Sorry, but you'll have to wait until you're 16 or 18.

most tattoo places will let you get one if you have a parents consent (a parent goes with you and signs off)
