Democrats were in office during all of WWII and for the first part of the Vietnam war. However, neither war seemed to have much to do with domestic politics. They were international events...and politics stops at the waters edge. We had greater justification for WWII but the argument for Vietnam made sense at the time.

9/11/01 was not an existential threat to the US the way that 1941 was.

Democrats were majority in both House's during both WWII and Viet Nam

FDR (D) was in his 3rd and 4th terms during WWII

Eisenhower (R) sent advisers to Viet Nam.

Kennedy (D) sent more advisers

Johnson (D) Sent more advisers and began sending combat units in early 65. S. Korea had already sent a Brigade. Australia and New Zealand also sent troops. The Philippines sent non-combat troops. Not sure of the dates for the other countries.

Nixon (R) Bombed the S#%t out of the North and Begins removing troops in 69.

See the links below for more Viet Nam info.

The justification in both case's was/is to stop the aggressor from continuing their attacks.

Pearl Harbor was military forces attacking military forces.

9/11 was a terror attack conducted by terrorists on civilian targets. The big difference might be that Bin Laden had declared war on the US.

Both events created a popular opinion to respond with deadly force.

1941-1945 Jackass party. 'Nam again the Jackass party. However Ike was in on the ground floor in the 1950's & Nixon ended the thing.
Justified? Hell, yeah....
Pearl Harbor vs 9/11? Well....... Both bad, both had lot of bad intel/ secuirty prior. Both had command F-ups on the day of ther event. One has a Memorial already while the other has a guy selling FDNY t-shirts down the block......

I am here simply to set the record straight about the Vietnam "thing"---- the Republican President Dwight Eisenhower is responsible for our involvement IN Vietnam -- originally committing Americans TO the South Vietnam regime in a "bale out process" for his WW2 buddy DeGalle when the French had successfully screwed themselves to the wall in that country by their empirialistic, overlord behavior there and had gotten SO bogged down that they were in jepardy of taking the French Franc to the garbage heap !!!!!

So, the commitment and the involvement were Republican items that the Democrats inherited MUCH in the same way that they will inherit IRAQ and soon...... IRAN !!!
Republicans know how to start war --- they just don't have a clue in hell how to run them or get them over with !!!!!!!!!

the american soldiers loose the war in vietnam. their enemy is the entire nation, from children, to grown up. both man and woman. it like out of the frying pan and into the fire, they want to save a nation but end up fighting them all. 911 happens because osama get paid to strikes on the US. so the US will forget about their primary goal regarding some foreign land economy. so they end up waging war in afghanistan.

the casualties in WW2 were big but they didnt make a huge deal about it for some reason.... they were all democrats. and it differs alot because we arent even fighting a organized force. its like we patrol the streets boom 3 soldiers dead shots fired even tho the person who did the bombing blew himself up.

The problem isn't who or what started it. It's who's going to end it.
