Yes it is. Any crack which is in the driver's view of the road is considered an obstruction, and can be ticketed.

However, just for the record, it is rare that an officer would want to bother with something like the crack you describe. Generally, unless you get rude to an officer, they will just tell you to get it fixed, and not bother writing a ticket.

Even if it's not illegal, you'll better have the windshield replaced.

Be sure that all rubber seals are in place and that the windshield frame isn't bent (specially important in convertibles), so that it doesn't crack again.

Probably is. In KY there is zero deductible on windshields. So if you have comprehensible insurance with a 500 buck deductible, you can have the window replaced for zero co-pay, insurance will pick-up the whole tab. Check with a glass company and see if it's that way in CA. good luck.

Of course it is! Get the windshield replaced before you get pulled over and pay more in fines than the cost of a new windshield.

If it's on the drivers side, I believe you'll have to replace it. If something does hit it while you're driving on the freeway....it may shatter because the integrity of the winshield is compromised. due to the crack.

If it is in your field of vision then no. If it gets larger then no. Go to a dealership that maded your car to get it replaced. Like if you have a Ford car go to a ford dealership.
