it means the number of channels it has..3 way means 3 channels of different frequencies (can be low, mid, and high)..one way would be a sub woofer( or tweeter for that matter), etc...and it matters in what you are looking for in the sound system...let's say you want a pretty good sounding system...2 or 3 way would be the way to go..with the 3 delivering more sound than the 2 way..though the difference is small (without some proper equipment complimenting it.)

It means there are three speakers, typically a woofer (for low tones) a tweeter, (for high tones) and a mid-range speaker. There's also crossover circuitry to send the tones to the correct speaker. It may sound better, but it could be largely advertising hype. Let your ears be your guides.

There are 3 speakers mounted together or in the same enclosure.
A Tweeter (High)
A Middie (middle Range)
A Woofer (Bass)

This means it has 3 drivers. The woofer (main part), a midrange, and a tweeter.
They have a bit more midrange, but if you're not giving them plenty of power (50watts RMS or more), you'll never notice it.
Just spend that amount of money on a higher-end 2way set.
Good Luck!

It means that the speaker will handle the low, mid, and high frequencys. So it is a full range speaker.
