I mean do you accept the scientific definition of a fetus? Are you pro-life just because of the way you feel, rather than for any scientifically plausible reason? Another poster brought up the subject of pro-life and I just wondered what non-religious ideas are out there. Thanks.

I'm an atheist. I feel a foetus should not be killed without reason(and no, I don't consider "It's more fun without a condom" to be a reason; rape or danger to the mother/baby are valid reasons).

I don't label myself "pro life", because I do believe in choice. You have a choice on whether or not to have sex. You have a choice on whether or not to use a condom. You have a choice on whether to keep the baby or put it up for adoption. Every choice in life has consequences, be it positive or negative, and abortion is the easy way out.

I suppose it's the vegitarian coming out in me - I don't believe in unnecessary death for any animal, humans (and their foeti) included.

Almost all atheists are pro-life. We mostly also believe that women have the right to make choices about abortion.

What the heck do you mean by "accept the scientific definition of a fetus"? The scientific definition is something like this (from Wikipedia):

"A fetus (or foetus, or fœtus) is a developing mammal or other viviparous vertebrate, after the embryonic stage and before birth."

It'd be pretty strange not to accept that.

I think pretty much everyone is pro-life. The real debate is between pro-choice and anti-choice. I think that the anti-choice movement is dangerous for women and gives the government too much control over our personal medical decisions.

I personally would never choose to have an abortion. I can't imagine a situation in which I would find myself pregnant and decide to not continue the pregnancy. I simply don't begrudge other women the right to make that decision for themselves.

I am partially atheist.

I am, to some extent, pro-life.

Although, essentially, the woman should have the choice. If at all possible, I think it's best to keep the fetus alive; there are options other than abortion.

However, in certian cases, I make exceptions to this.

Just the same, I find it extremely difficult to agree with partial birth abortions.

I am personally pro-life and I will attempt to talk anyone who ASKS MY OPINION out of it.

I am politically pro-choice and I don't think a government should be given the power over any persons body.

I am pro-choice. I think a woman should have the right to decide what to do with it. I'm only against it when women use it as a form of birth control. I mean, I can understand it when a woman is raped, or if her birth control fails and its an accident, or if she is unable to afford it. But not as a form of birth control......

I'm agnostic.

The way I feel? Scientifically plausible reasons?

Science is morally neutral. Morality is decided by each human and therefore varies greatly.

I am an atheist who is pro-choice. I give precedence to an adult fully conscious, fully human woman over a collection of cells with no nervous system, no organs, no knowledge and no humanity.

well, i'm agnostic... but, while i do think the state shouldn't have a say in whether or not a woman has the right to get an abortion. i would never have my g/f or wife get one, and i think its morally wrong. so yes, i guess i'm pro-life.
