I lost my 11 year old baby blue and gold from PDD about a month ago my amazon does not ask for him however after living with him for ten years she no longer has her friend around. I am unable to purchase another bird because my amazon may have PDD or be a carrier. My husband is terrified that he is going to loose his "baby" too. I'm devistated but trying to remain optimistic and strong for the amazon. Now its a waiting game. For 3 weeks she spoke very little and refused to eat. Other than spending time with her and spoiling her, with toys, treats, and special outings what can we do to help her. We both work. We've brought her to work with us a couple of times. She has already had two well bird exams and appears to be fine. We're waiting for an appt. at Guelf teaching school where she will be seen by one of the top PDD experts. When I'm not balling my eyes out I have become totally focused on doing whatever I can for the cure.

How devastating, I'm so sorry. My cockatoos are 13 and 15 years old and I can't imagine your agony at this situation. Your heart is already guiding you with what is best for your amazon. Time will eventually help her over her loss as it will for you and your husband. It gets a little bit better every day.

You are in excellent hands at Guelph University, my hopes are with you.

I'm sorry for your loss.

If your bird is definitely diagnosed with PDD you might check with some of the rescues and your vet regarding breeders or birds that have been diagnosed with PDD or been in an environment where others were lost to PDD. You might find a companion that has already been exposed that needs a home and would be a comfort to your bird.

My heart crys with you. I am so sorry about your baby.

Your Amazon may not have PDD, I HOPE not.

It is best to not take her to work with you, unless you can do it forever. You might get her a friend. It depends on many factors, but my Blue and Gold had a lovebird buddy.

How did your bird get PDD????

Again - I am so sorry about your friend.
