My 2 year old became sick last night. She was running a fever of about 104 degrees. We gave her Children's Tylenol around 1:30 am but it only brought down the fever one degree. This morning when we tried to give her another dosage, she suddenly vomited. Pretty much everything she ate yesterday came out. But after vomiting she seemed slightly better, less fussier and was willing to take a lukewarm bath. After the bath, she slept for 4 hours. We gave her more Tylenol. About 2 hours ago, her temperature finally came down to 100 and she acts more happy. So what could've caused her fever? She showed no signs of having a cold; just a fever and the vomiting episode this morning and some diarrhea. Yesterday the only time she went out was around 6:30 pm to a nearby park with her dad but she didn't have contact with anybody there. Her dad is fine. Could it be from heat (we live in Phoenix) or food poisoning?

Kids get sick. You did the right thing and she sounds like she is on the road to recovery already.. If she had continued to vomit with the fever you could get tylenol suppositories at the pharmacy. You have to ask for them but they are not prescription.

Fevers are the body's way of ridding itself of toxins but a high temp that does not respond to treatment with Tylenol or Motrin needs to be addressed by your child's pediatrician.

As adults we have been exposed to many, many different bugs/germs in our lifetimes. Things that will knock a little child out won't bother us at all.

Also, sips of liquids to begin with, crackers like saltines if the liquids stay down. Avoid red juices as when anyone vomits something that is red automatically we think "blood". Not allowing red foods will determine this easier.

By the way, any new teeth?

This happened to my grandaughter few yrs ago. We were in Maui. She got heat prostration. RAn a very high fever in 102degree Farenheit. And was vomiting. However she didn't have diarrhea. Children tend and can tolerate very high fevers in contrast to adults. All the below are possible causes. Allergic reaction to vaccination. Do you know some have mercury? Heat prostration. Dehydration because of the vomiting can also cause fever. Diarrhea because of something she ate. Some E.Coli food poisoning. or gastritis. The common flu and colds and Bronchitis can also be causes. Next time, try giving Motrin for children. For the fever and apple sauce and apple juice for the diarrhea Motrin is more effective than Tylenol.

sounds like she just has a virus. Virus's cause high fevers. You said that she went to the park. That is a good place to pick up a virus. they can live anywhere. She could have touched something that some other child touched. I really think its just the flu. You have got to keep her fever down. a fever of 104.....you should have gone to the hospital....that high of a fever can cause serious SERIOUS problems. if it gets 103 you need to take her to the hospital. To keep down her fever you can give her 1 tsp of Children's tylenol....(thats the correct dosage) and 1 tsp of Children's Motrin or IB profen. you can mix the two. And only these two....no other drugs can you mix like this. This will keep the fever down. Now with the fever you have got to get some fluids in her. that is the most important thing. If you can keep a couple of teaspoons down her every hour and she doesn't vomit after a few hours of that try 3 or 4 teaspoons every hour then keep increasing the dosage amount every couple of hours. this way it will be easier on her stomach and it will decrease her chances of throwing up again........Good luck!

very possibly due to the heat. she's pretty young and if she was running around alot she may have gotten overheated. i doubt it was food poisoning but it could have been some kind of stomach flu. she could have caught it anywhere in the last couple of days. glad to hear she's feeling better.

It could be that she was allergic to whatever she ate
