I am worried about my cockatiel but I am broke and I want to know if there is anything I can do to help his leg heal. The thing is that I am not sure if his leg is broken. I bandaged his leg and put a stick to hold its leg. Please help me .

God Bless,
Glendy

I know you may not want to here this but why not:
Go to the vet
Talk to the vet them self, not reception people
99.99% they will treat him
You could ask if you could clean cages or do something to pay it off.

I really hope he is ok,

Bandaging the leg and holding it with a stick can actually cause more harm than good. Birds break bones in the wild and they do fine. Bird bones aren't the same as human ones. They're not as sturdy and are hallow so they don't use the same treatment as human. Take the bird to a vet if you can. If you can't, this is going to sound absolutely crazy, but trust me; leave the leg alone! The bone will heal on it's own and may always look a little lumpy or funny, but within a few weeks the bird will be able to move it and be back to normal. I've had many birds come through my house that came from abusive homes and had broken bones. If it's a wing, it needs to be splinted, but a leg and foot WILL heal on its own! Just make a little "bed" for the bird at the bottom of the cage and put the food and water down there so it doesn't have to climb around to eat drink and sleep comfortably. I hope he's alright!

When you have an animal you must assume financial responsibility for it. That is part of the deal.

That said, did you see the bone sticking out of the leg? Can he put any weight on it??

If the bone is broken and heals offset, he will be crippled the rest of his life. And in pain, like he is now. How was it he got injured????

You might find an avian rehabber who would examine him and set the bone.

If you are very lucky, it is a bruise or sprain. Take the bandage off and find out. Hold the bone in two places and move it. Gently. See if it is broken. Your forestry and wildlife people might have the number of an avian rehabber. Do not tell them your story.

And please supervise your animals so they do not end up injured. I know things happen, but be careful for their sake.

awww'im sooo sorry to hear that !
well you are doing what is correct for his leg as far as keeping it in a splint and wrapped.
Juts make sure it is not too tight ,if so it can cut the blood flow off which would be very bad!

Call your vet and tell them what happen and about you situation finically and see if they will set up a monthly payment plan for ya!

Hope he gets well soon!
I'M sure he is suffering esp. if it is a torn or broken leg!
