Yes Dogs do sweat....they sweat from the pads of thier feet.....one way to keep them cool all the time is to trim the hair in and around the dogs feet. If you want to cool them down after a long walk in the heat, give them cool water for drinking, not cold, because it can put them into shock if they drink it too fast. You can also give them a shower with the hose outside. I'm sure the dog will enjoy the shower, most dogs do. Take the dog swimming if there is a pond or river near where you live. Another thing you can do after you go for the walk is have the dog lay down and you can brush the dog so the hair can be split apart and so the skin can breathe. I hope this helps.

As others have indicated "horses sweat, dogs pant, and we perspire. When a dog pants, their mouth works in exactly the same way as a swamp cooler on a house does. The draw back to this is not the temperature that they are exposed to, but rather it is humidity that causes a swamp cooler to lose efficiency.
For this exact same reason, it is not getting a dog wet that cools it down. (water will not get to the skin) It is the water that is in the dogs coat evaporating that draws heat away from the dog. The rate of evaporation can be accelerated by mixing alcohol with the water and misting the dog with a spray bottle.
On hot days I also take along some drinking water for the dog in a spray bottle (just squirt the water into their mouth , and a little squirt on their back sure feels good too)

edit:
a dog is NOT going to die from shock if you squirt it with a hose!! Again all that will do is get it's hair wet, there will not be any water reach the dogs skin!! You literally have to scrub a dog to make that happen.

Dogs do not exactly sweat. When they are hot, they pant by sticking their tongue out. To keep them cool on a hot day after a walk, just get the dog some nice, cold water and let them sit in the shade for a bit. It may also help if you give them an ice cube suitable for their size, so they won't choke on it. That's what I do to my dog in the summer, even though she pants like crazy through every season, even winter!!!

Dogs actually have sweat glands on the pads of their feet, but this doesn't help them cool down. They cool off by panting. If the dog has a pushed in face or if it is humid outside, they have a much harder time cooling off. Only walk your dog early in the morning or in the evening after sunset in the summer. Hose your dog off with cool water before the walk. Bring a bottle of water that has been frozen, and as it melts it will provide cool water for the dog. Offer him drinks frequently. Try to keep walks short. Hose him off again when you get home and let him rest in the air or in front of a fan. Put ice in his water bowl. Heat stroke is very commonly seen at our vet practice this time of year.

Dogs do not sweat as humans do. They pant to release body heat and they do have sweat glands in their paws. It is not wise to take your dog for long walk in the heat of the summer. Short walks early in the morning or later towards the evening is best. If your dog becomes over heated then get cool wet towels and wrap your dog. Or take the hose and cool her off. Get the dog into a cool place until it stops panting. Then offer cool water to drink.

DO NOT WET YOUR DOG WITH A HOSE IF IT IS HOT!!! It will cause your dog to go into shock and they can die from it. I know, I worked in a vets office. and I have seen it happen. It is ok to spray your dog if they haven't been doing anything, but lying around. A dog that has been exercising or is possibly havin' heat stroke will die from the water. The best way to cool a dog off is to give it plenty of cool water and let it rest in a cool area, Dogs don't sweat at all, they pant which helps cool the blood that is circulating, therfore cooling the dog.

Here are a few things that you can do:

1. Take a hose and spray your dog done. Then let your dog air dry!

2. Give your dog ice cubes. You can also put them in his water dish.

3. Get your dog a little kiddy pool and fill it up with cold water. That would be a good one!

Sorry, that was all that I could think of at the moment, Hope that this solves your probably!

They don't sweat, they cool themselves panting. If it's a hot day, try spraying your dog with water. Take breaks with your dog under trees, they like the shadow.
