But God created men. So in a sense is not God creating sin too?

2007-06-27 14:43:59 · 12 answers · asked by Love Exists? 6 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

because if he had not given us the knowledge to sin we would not have sinned.. so was sinning God's plan all along? And in Christianity what role does Satan play? Did humans invent Satan too since Satan is the one encouraging us to sin, but if sinning is human nature then why do we get punished for it?

What is free will any way, I mean its not really free will at all because if we choose not to believe then we go to hell and we have to pick one religion out of so many and the one we pick could easily be the wrong one.

Your question is very interesting but the reply is very long in order to address all the points that you have asked. I'll, however, give a brief reply (if you want it to discuss fully, you can send me a mail).
Read Sura Al Baqara and you will know that "fall of man" was God's plan all along. Before creating Adam, He told the angels what he was about to do; creating man and sending him to earth. On this angles replied that men will do more damage than good and God said that He knew what they (angels) knew not. After that, he created Adam. It clearly show that sending men on earth was God's plan. Creating sin has other roots. The first ever sin is "pride" committed by Satan (the versions of the Holy Quran and that of Old and New Testament differ on the kind of Pride but all agree that Pride was the first sin followed by disoedience). God says, in the Holy Quran as well as in the Old & New Testament that only He is the creator. If any creature other than Him created sin, then this negates God's claim of being a creator and an almighty (He could have stopped the first sin and what followed next being an almighty if this was not his scheme).
The character is Satan is also very interesting. This character and his evolution reveals many things (but this is not the place where it can be discussed in full). Styarting from the Old Testament, Satan is an angel who works on God's commands (read the chapter of Job). With the coming of Christianity, he became an evil character and no more an angel working on God's command. He achieved an independent status and the verses of Old & New Testament were interpreted accordingly. By the time Islam came, Satan had become evil personified.
Now you can deduce the status of free will from all this.

To Christians, the verb 'sin' means to turn away from God. The noun 'sin' is the choice to turn away from God. God did not create your choices, you have the free will to choose. We make our own choices; God didn't program us like robots.

What do you mean we don't have free will? Of course you can choose to go to Hell, if that's what you mean? And we can be atheist too if we want.... I don't see how that denies us of free will.

Well, if you want to get really deep about this... God's purpose for creating us was so that He could have a "loving relationship". That sounds perverted, I know, but trust me, that's not what it means. lol Now, of course God can't have a relationship with a robot or a tree or a bug, so God created us in His own image. Since we were created in His own image, He also had to give us free will since that's what separates us from robots. I hope that makes at least a little sense to you whether you believe any of this or not.

Faulty logic. Sorry.

We agreed...God created Man...but that is where we part company...:)

God gave "man" free will...
God gave "man" a choice...because what is free will if there are no choices.
God has all knowledge of Good and Evil
By partaking of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil..."man" was saying he wanted to be like God.
With this act...sin was allowed to enter the world...again...what is the point of free will if one doesn't have something to choose from.
"Man" sins when he chooses to take a path away from God.

That I bought some peanut butter from Walmart...and I cut my finger when I drooped the glass jar...so since I got it from Walmart...it is Walmart's ' fault. Doesn't work that way with Walmart and doesn't work that way with God.

yes, God did create sin.
when He created the world, he gave all things a choice, free willl. if God only gave us the choice to do right and to follow him, then what would be so special about that, its like we were forced to do it. free will made it more meaningful to follow him & stay clean. that is why God became angry at Adam & Eve after eating the apple in the Garden of Eden & not the serpent because it was their choice to do right or wrong.

The original sin was to know both good and evil. Man only knew good in the beginning and God commanded that he not have knowledge of evil. The only thing one can know is that which one knows within onesself.

a sin is deviating by commission or omission some moral laws that were given to us for guidance for our well being, society and environment. God did created man, but was given free will to do what he like.
on the other hand, if one committed or omitted a man made law, it's called crime.

God rules. But the problem is there are certain people who claim to be Christian, yet live lifestyles that go directly against God's word. That's why he said not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. When you point this out to certain people here in R&S, they show their true immaturity.

no..God gave man a choice. you have a choice to do between what's right and wrong. God told Adam to not eat from the tree of knowledge...he disobeyed God. by disobeying...he had a choice to listen to God. he didn't..and because of that...we are all cursed.
