Psalm is a book in the Old Testament of the Bible, and 31 means the chapter number of mentioned book. So that means that you need to read the 31st chapter of the book of Psalm in the Old Testament.

An example would be Luke 19:20. That would mean that you need to read the 20th verse of the 19th chapter of the book of Luke in the New Testament.

First off lets talk about divisions in the bible..

The bible is divided into 2 parts The old testament and the new testament..

The old testament and the new testament are divided into books with names... (Genesis Exodus, Mark, Romans Etc.)

Each book is divided into chapters (1,2,3,etc)

Each chapter is divided into versus (1,2,3 etc)

When someone refers to Mark 1:23 That indicates going to the book of Mark chapter 1 verse 23.. (not sure if that's an actual chapter and verse chose numbers at random)

For your assignment you are to read the book of Psalms (old testament) Chapter 32 in it's entirety...

There should be a header that says Chapter 31 in the book of Psalms.. Read from that header until you reach the next header that should say chapter 32 or you reach a header listing the next book whichever comes first...

At either the front or back of the copy of the bible you have there should be a table of contents with a page number listed telling you where exactly in you copy Psalms begins.. This will make findig the chapter easier as you don't have to search the entire book but only a small portion to find the chapter.. Some bibles list the start page of chapters as well making it even easier...

Page numbers will vary depending on the size of the bible and the size of the print used...

The bible is divided into 66 books.
Psalms is a book in the bible.

When a reference such as Psalms 31 is cited, it means the 31st chapter of Psalms, or the 31st Psalm.

Another example is something like Isaiah 43:18, where "Isaiah" is the name of the book, "43" is the chapter in that book, and "18" is the numbered verse of the chapter.
Sometimes a range of verses is cited like this:
John 3:16-18, which means the book of John, chapter 3 and verses 16 to 18.

All verses in the bible are numbered.

hope this helps
blessings :)

The Psalms are one of the books in the Bible. It's a collection of poems and worship songs written by David and other worship leaders. Psalm 31 is the 31st song. Oh, and the Psalms are about in the middle of the Bible, right before Proverbs.

Psalms is a book in the bible, and you want the 31st chapter of the book of Psalms.

Just think of the bible as a library in one book, Psalms is one of the books in the library.

It's a collection of poetry mostly written by a guy called David who went from a shepherd to a king, so you'll find that most of his stuff relates to his work and feelings.

Think of him as a local poet/bard and relax into his writings like you would a song.

Oh and try to get a New International Version or Good News Version of the bible - or even the street bible as they are far easier to understand than the "Thou shalt nots" of the King James Version. Your local library will be able to help or there's loads of online bibles, just do a search.

Hope this helps.

It means to read all of Psalm 31, if they specified what verse then it would mean to just read that verse...example Psalm 31:1, would mean just to read that specific verse, but how this is read would mean the whole chapter of Psalm 31. The Psalms are very good, it will really benefit you to read more of the bible. May the Lord give you understanding as you read. Jesus loves you:)

In answer to your question "How do I read the Bible?", after you've completed your assignment turn in the New Testament and read the book of John. It is a good book to read as a starting point. The books of Matthew, Mark and Luke have much the same content as John so they are good ones to read following John. If your Bible has print in red, it means they are the words of Jesus. If reading the Bible is new to you, I suggest reading the New Testament before the Old Testament. You will see those headings at the beginning of each. The Bible is a wonderful book. Please keep reading it and may God bless you. By the way, please don't feel like an idiot for asking your question. It's one worth asking.
