LOL, it's funny to see what people believe Mormons believe. Mormons are almost just like any other Christian church, there are just a few differences, like most Christian churches believe God talked to people and gave revalations in the olden days, and Mormons believe he still does, so they have a prophet. Mormons also believe that the Son, the Father, and the Holy Ghost are three different beings, where most Christians believe they are one entity. If you want any more information, go to LDS.org. (Oh, and by the way, the real Mormons don't practice polygamy, there was a while ago a split and there is now a church somewhat close to the Mormons that practices polygamy, and people get confused between the two.)

Well normally there is only 2 missionaries. they believe there has been a prophet on earth for the last about 200 years, and that beyond the Bible there are 3 other books of divinely inspired scripture: The Book of Moron, Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price.
Since you are sadly apathetic to everything and seem angry and immature in general, I am leaving it at those basics.

You sound more like you are interested to know about Latter Day Saints and just don't know how to ask.It doesn't hurt to get information that you are curious about. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to change your religion for wanting to to be well informed of others. It totally depends on you,how you feel. If you are so sure of being catholic, why do you worry and why be afraid to hear what missionaries at your door have to say?It won't hurt you, they won't hurt you either. They come a long way from their home and families to serve God,not to be treated this way. From what I understand about Catholics, you are suppose to be good mannered and respectable people,I just find hard to see that in you or your father, from what you are expressing hear. You can also speak to them politely and tell them that you are not interested or that your father does not allow them to speak to you or what ever reason you have, they will understand you.

Mormon is a nickname given to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a Christian denomination because the faith is centered around Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord.
LDS believe that both the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon are the Word of God. We accept both of these as scripture. We don't favor one book over the other. We believe that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God.
As for the "cult" remarks, according to the official dictionary definition, a "cult" is any religious body of worship, but people use the word today against faiths they do not like or understand.
A cult would not emphasize the importance of family. A cult would not teach its members to strive to live clean and healthy lives. A cult would not preach respect for our fellow man. The LDS church does ALL of these things.
Take a look at the 13th Article of Faith
"We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. "
Honestly, does that sound cult-like?
As for the missionaries, if you don't wish to speak to them, you will find that if you politely tell them to leave, they will respectfully do so. There's no need to get nasty or rude about it. As one person said earlier...those missionaries are human, too. They have feelings, just like anyone else. Just because they believe something different than what you might believe doesn't mean you have to look down on them. So if you ever talk to them, I hope you remember that.
If you have any questions feel free to email me. I also ask that you take a lot of the answers here with a grain of salt. A lot of people here get stirred up like a hornet's nest whenever the word "Mormon" is mentioned.
Check out www.lds.org and www.mormon.org for more on our basic beliefs.

I give you a star for asking! I am a Mormon and I know that there will be lots of answers on here that will range from the wierd to the downright silly! That is ok though! If you want to know more, ask a Mormon like me! I suggest that you look at this website:
http://www.mormon.org/mormonorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=3ff8ca451c69f010VgnVCM1000003a94610aRCRD&locale=0
You can see what other Mormons have to say and read for yourself! Other people who do not understand will tell you some really awful things. They are not true.
Go to this website and see for yourself! Click on the different pictures and see what Mormons have to say!
You can always email me too. I will be glad to answer your questions!
Take care!
Jim B has obviously not read anything at all about the Mormons. He is telling you what some guy made up in order to scare people away from the Mormon Church. Some is true, most is lies.
I told you there would be lots of wierd, untrue things said on here in answer to your question!
These people mean well, but they have not the slightest clue as to what they are speaking of! It is just SO obvious! If you knew any Mormons who are faithful Mormons, you could see right away that the lies told about us are just that, silly lies.

Wow. I really became amused at all of the uninformed responses you received to this question. Humorous. They are not so accurate. The person named "lady" was encouraging becasue even though she is (assuming) not a Mormon, she gave a fully intelligent response.
If you want to know what Mormon's believe, you would need to go to a Mormon and ask. If you want to know what a Catholic believes, you would go to a Catholic. If you want to know what a Methodist believes, you would go to a Methodist. If you want to learn about a Dodge vehicle, you won't find accurate answers at a Cherovlet dealer.
Here is a brief outline of Mormon beliefs. More info can be gleaned at www.mormon.org.
1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
3 We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
11 We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have what they call an area book. They make notes in it like who's receiving their discussions, who's comitted to baptism, etc. You can ask them to note down in their area book that you don't want any more visits.
If you are interested in Mormonism, check out http://www.mormon.org - it has a great FAQ section.

A Mormon is a member if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints. Those guys are missionaries, they're called Elder, followed by their last name which is in their name tag. They are great!
If you want to talk to them tell them that you'd like to talk to them but your dad doesn't agree so you can meet in another place, they'll agree. Or talk to your dad and tell him that you'd like to know a little bit more about the church. Their first visits aren't too long and it does not take more than 1 hour. If you don't want to talk to them (this goes to you and your dad) please don't be mean with them, they are human beings like each one of us and they have feelings and they don't have any intention to harm anyone. They are great, always happy, caring and very nice. They visit us once a week.

i've got spent approximately 40 years in bishoprics, extreme councils, and clerk positions, and that i've got seen various human beings flow away the Church. i've got sat on various disciplinary councils. None of them left the Church because of the fact of "info" against the Church. There are some who only steadily elect the flow away into state of no interest. on occasion this is because of the fact of a loss of religion, prompted with the aid of doubts brought about with the aid of something they have study. one among my brothers became like that, notwithstanding he has in view that come decrease back to Church. He did not prefer to inform me approximately his doubts because of the fact he had improve into confident that there became no answer to his doubts, and he did not prefer to burden me together with his doubts. it somewhat is only too undesirable he did not communicate over with me, because of the fact there is often an answer. part of his problem nevertheless became that he became searching for a reason to not flow on a venture, and "blindly" save on with the occasion of his older brothers. It became in part a delight problem. I even have an theory approximately people who flow away the Church and declare it became because of the fact of info. They fall into 3 communities. (a million) some are certainly puzzled with the aid of the arguments of adult men. (2) some seek for info the Church isn't real, yet deep down they understand the genuine reason became they have been indignant or they felt in charge approximately their sins. (3) And others do not understand their very very own reasons. In a psychology classification I as quickly as took I heard of an exciting test with regards to this third team. a guy or woman in yet another psychology classification became hypnotized and given a submit-hypnotic suggestion. The hypnotized pupil became advised that as quickly as the instructor coughed the pupil might arise from his seat and open the window to the college room. He does not keep in mind something he became advised while hypnotized. He became then awaken from his hypnotic trance and advised to flow decrease back to his seat. the pupil remembered not something of what he became advised even as hypnotized. the instructor after a jiffy coughed, and the pupil have been given up and opened the window. Now right here is the factor of this tale. while requested why he opened the window his techniques on the instant synthetic a reason. He stated he became warm, and surprisingly adequate his physique proved it with the aid of getting crimson and sweaty.
