I know a lot of people will prob. accuse you of being rascist, but honestly, I agree with what you mean by this question.
I have no problem with people coming to this country, but I do believe that they should bother to learn the language of the people here. I shouldn't have to learn a new language so I can talk to people that come here. you don't see me going to Mexico and getting pissed when some people don't speak english.
p.s. I lived in Guatemala for three years, and, while, I no longer remember how to speak any spanish (I lived there when I was 4 till I was 7) I at least made an effort to learn it.
and, on another note. I don't understand why people come here if they don't want to be a part of our culture. for example, a Mexican immigrant (nothing rascists, those quick to judge, Im only using that as an example cuz there are a lot of Mexican immigrants in this area. ) Ive seen some, that come here, will only fly a Mexican flag, only speak Spanish, only shop at Mexican grocery stores and stuff, and only hang out with other Mexican people. why not just stay in Mexico?? not that Im saying that they need to completely abandon their culture, or become totally americanized, but why don't they make more of an effort to fit in with what's going on around them? and, Im not saying all immigrants do that, but I have seen quite a few.

It's funny. I'm totally bilingual with an advanced degree in Spain and have never had a job that needed it and I work in the public sector.
Outrageous--I live in NYC, we aren't exactly lacking in terms of the Hispanic population either.

simple, because the whole, ''of the people, by the people, and for the people'' slogan is just that- a slogan. 9 out of 10 people are AGAINST the amnesty plan, but politicians (on both sides) are bought and paid for by corporations who need cheap labor. We no longer have accurate representation. (we, being hard- working, God fearing, gun toting people who are the backbone of this country)

B/c we're being invaded by illegals @ massive #'s & they're taking our jobs as well b/c they work cheaper. I agree it's BS. I see an employment ad that says "Bilingual preferred" I speak French hence I am bilingual! It's a dbl standard. This is America & I think it's BS as well. THEY need to learn English period!

I didn't have to. Work harder to find a job buddy, complaining won't get you one. My 17-year-old younger brother just got a job at Starbucks
