my "desk" is a 33" card table, it's in a 3ft nook area, I have a pull out 3 drawer cart full of supplies, a tabletop drawer and a laptop that needs to be incorporated into the area. I am willing to buy wall shelving. Trying to make it unique, it's my place to be creative.

My thought is you build yourself a better table....can do on the cheap or if you aren't handy, buy an inexpensive but more funtional table that can handle your space. A card table is too unsteady. The three door cart should be able to slide under and in and out of the table and handle your computer comfortably and most likely your printer as well with a raised table top configuration. Yes, you need wall shelves or a ready made cabinet with doors easily available from Home Depot or Loews that hides your supplies and keeps your space clean. An additional roll out cart will handle your files. You have a small space. Take advantage of every possible way to keep it neat and to hide what needs to be hidden.

I agree about the 'Container Store' idea - put up some shelves, and add a stable work space and a comfortable chair.
You can be creative as long as you want!
[ See pictures #1 and 2 under 'elfa' for example - I like the beechwood and white or platinum and walnut ]

there isn't a desk in the entire world big enough to be organized
i'm looking at a work space of desks joined 20 feet by 4 feet, piled high with papers, disks, computers, printers, flashdrives, and other assorted stuff,
we b doomed to our messiness.
oh yes and a cat snoozing on the g-3.
