First of all, I am sorry to hear that you lost one of your dogs. It's never easy to lose a furry friend.
To answer your question, dogs grieve just like we do and Sadie is very sad right now. She could use some extra hugs and kisses and reassurance that everything will be okay. Make sure she eats and drinks and try to spend some extra time with her to get her mind off her loss.

Yes it is normal for dogs to be sad when a friend is no longer around. My 4 year old was "off" for about a month when the 11 year old died. Just try giving her some special attention, life will get back to normal.

Yes they can grieve just like you and me. Something very important to her is no longer there and she is sad and confused. Just keep her busy and maybe get her a new toy to help keep her occupied. She will eventually get used to her friend not being there, but she needs to adjust. I have seen dogs refuse to eat for days after they lost a housemate- just spoil her a little to help her through it. It will make you feel better as well to spend some extra time with her. I am very sorry for the loss of your dear pet- I know how hard it is.

Yes they can greive. Dogs have most of the same emotions people do. I had two dogs a brother and a sister. The sister dog die protecting us from a home invasion. He was never the same. He didn't run around all happy anymore. He just set there. He would raise his head if one of us came out to pet him.

First of all I'm very sorry for your loss. And yes dogs grieve. My dog Cookie was raised with our other dog Samson, after his passing Cookie would do nothing but lie around all day in Samson's bed and then go "looking" for him. She refused to eat and whined alot. This was a few months ago and time has seemed to heal her, she has slowly began to return to her normal, happy self.

of course they can, all mamals grieve, even mice, especially elephants, whales do it, and humans, and monkeys as well
its not like they know what death is, because only we are so fortunate. but they do know when things change, and death is a transformative event. Elephants rub the skulls of their dead and groan and whimper, a breeding mice pair can become so attached to eachother that when one lives out its short life, the other basically commits emotional suicide and its body shuts down. Apes grieve when one of their own gets in trouble with the leader and banished from the troop, as well as when a group member passes on. and as you know humans grieve, oh right whales. they sing distinct songs for their dead, at specific times/distances/places on their migratory journeys, so if their homey died arounf monterey bay they sing that song then, and if one died in mex, thay sing a different song for them.
it is all very interesting stuff, the connections animals make with eeachother, and we are just real smart animals, so it is almost like anything we can do tye can do to a certain extent
sorry to hear of your loss, i hope your other dog perks back up soon, but she will have to take time to get over it, just as you will. DOGS ARE SMART, THEY KNOW MUCH MORE THAN WE GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR

They sure do, they will grieve over the loss of a companion, a master a move or different environment and just about many things we do. My brother's dog almost had to go on doggie prozac after my brother past away. He stopped eating, he would constantly search for my brother and he would lay in my brothers bed and whimper.

I do believe they do my Rottweiler died and my American Bulldog would not even get up to go to the bathroom. This lasted for weeks. I couldn't take it anymore and gave her to my brother who had her sister. She was happy and lived a long life just died this year she was14. I always have 2 dogs, maybe you need to think about another dog. I learned my lesson.

Yes animals can grieve. Did you dog happen to be around the other dog when it died. Animals can better accept the death of another animal when they can see/sence the body is dead etc.
