Indeed, Americans stand to lose jobs to offshoring as well as immigration, legal or otherwise, and should be concerned about all three.

Then again, 'losing jobs' isn't always the big disaster it's hyped up to be, while some jobs may leave, others may be created. Americans should really focus on increasing thier value as workers - continuing education, putting thier kids through college, etc - as global competition in the workforce is a fact of life, today. Jobs can be lost to global competition, but they can also be gained, and the increased efficiency and economic activity of such a globalized job market will benefit Americans (though, not nearly so much as it will benefit less developed countries who have much further to go).

Finally, it's not just jobs that concerns Americans. Immigration has always been a positive force in America, but that was legal immigration & assimilation. Too many of today's illegal immigrants are not interested in assimilating, and, the two factors are combining to make America less safe (due to unsecurable borders) and more divided - adding cultural, and language divides to the existing (if healing) fractures along race and religion and the growing dividions in ideaology.

Well....since you need a job to make money to buy the necessities in life.....hell yes we're worried about jobs. I don't mind "sharing" the wealth or bringing other impoverished nations UP to our level. That was what they SAID globalization would do. So far it's not what I see. All I see is my country bending over backwards to take what I have and give it to someone else while they collect more money than they could ever spend off the backs of the poorest....and now the middle-class and then tell me this is a "good thing". They never bothered to send us the survival manual for 3rd word countries. Excuse me if I see a little flaw in their greedy plan.

i get what you're saying, but i don't really think you wanted it to be a question at all. i don't think americans are really worried about the loss of jobs in the U.S. and they get employees from foreign lands to give them the chance to work here and profit because they might not have a chance in their own countries, besides the more people working, the faster the economy grows and america has a pretty good economy right now.

You shouldn't be talking to Americans about this... talk to the British. They're definitely the type of case for this question...

It is a moronic idea to export jobs and import poverty at the same time.
