I saw the painting in a book about Opera (or Wagner) years ago!
It was something like the one that you show, but the shadow was projected on to a sheer cliff in the background.
making Wagner's "Stupendous Requiem on the Death of a Super-Hero" achieve superhuman proportions.

At the moment, I have in my hand a book illustrated by Rackham:
It's a child's edition of Gulliver's Travels.
A much-loved book that I won as a school prize many moons ago. One of these days I'll frighten the library to death by asking for the unexpurgated Version!
