I'm an international student and planning to go to school in Valparaiso in Indiana for my bachelors and this is why I'm asking this question.

Hoosiers are kind, genuine people.

HI-
I am a former Hoosier and now live in Germany, so I guess I qualify to tell you our best traits.

Hoosiers are always hospitable. If you get stuck at the side of the road, a Hoosier will help you.

Hoosiers are friendly-just ask anyone from surrounding states. Some of them talk funny, the ones from Southern Indiana, but they are nice.

OK-the number one generalization, and I think it´s true-
Hoosiers love basketball, especially high school basketball. Some towns literally close down if their high school team is in the finals-I know, I´m the daughter of a former assistant coach.

I would say the worst, and this isn´t too bad, is that Hoosiers love their pick-up trucks. I have never lived somewhere (I also lived in California and Chicago, Illinois) else where almost everyone drove a pick-up truck.

I couldn´t wait to get out of Indiana, but there truly is no place like home. Now that I live overseas, I cannot wait to get back and visit Bloomington again. My husband (who is German) loves it there, and always says he wants to move there, just because people are so friendly.

I hope you have great experiences in Valpo, as they call it. If you want to fit in, buy a pick up truck!

I go to Valpo sometimes to go to Super Wal-Mart. I think that Hoosiers, can be rude especially to out of towners and Chicagoins. There is plenty of snow here in the winter so, Hoosiers tend to be really good drivers. I hope you have a great time in Indiana and much sucess to your degree.

Some Hoosiers are very warm friendly people who enjoy family traditions and celebrating holidays and sports events. Some are uptight with very strict views on how you should live your life and choose to single you out verses opening up and excepting you.

Well when ya get to Indianapols ask the first person ya see "Who's yer Daddy"? And when ya walk into a bar or Niteclub ask"Who's ear is that laying in the floor? (Ha Ha) That is where (w) hoosier's nickname comes from. Indiana's people are hospitable, helpful, friendly, law abiding( cause everone carries a pistol) as they were one of the first states to get a "conceal Carry" law. Meaning ,ya don't know who's got a gun on them. Northern Hoosiers trend to be like Chicagoin's. Very rude and trying to pull a scam on ya all the time so if ya go into a restaurant or bar be sure ya pick up your money and take it with ya. DO NOT LEAVE IT ON THE TAKE OR IT WILL DISSAPEAR!!!!
