I just recently got a new phone number and I registered with the donotcall.gov list three days ago. They say it takes 31 days for sales calls to stop and I can't take it. I'm getting like 20 a day & I don't answer them so I don't know why I'm complaining but they're SO obnoxious & these people just KEEP CALLING BACK. So my question is: does anyone know of a FASTER [than 31 days] plan to get these people to leave me alone?

Every new phone number is put on list that telemarketers can buy, you will also get the telemarketers that were calling the people who had the phone number before you (for us it was a fax machine). Here is the procedure (it is a bit of a pain):
have a pen and paper by the phone,. When every a telemarketer calls: ask them the name of the company they work for and their name, also write down the time and date they called. Then tell them "I am on the Nationwide Do Not Call list, please remove my name from your calling list:".

At that point they HAVE to stop calling you, if they call you 2 more times (they are allowed to screw up once) you can sue them.

Air horn, or hanging up will just have them call again.

Answering machines and blow horns or whistles are possible solutions. But there maybe a more technological answer to your persistent problem, the TeleZapper by Privacy Technologies.

The device is easy to use and according to the manufacturer very effective. Just plug it into your phone line and sit back and wait. Every time a telemarketer using a automated dialing system calls your number, the zapper will send out a disconnected signal. The salesperson will think they have reached a phone number which is no longer in service and then, naturally, hang-up. I liked the idea when I first heard about it and thought you might too. But please take into consideration one thing.

I have never owned a TeleZapper and thus have no personal experience with one. (I rarely get annoying sales calls so there is no need.) My knowledge is solely based on reviews written by users at Amazon.com and the sales literature available at the company website. You will probably want to read the same before making any decision.

Good luck!!

It's a bit cruel but... when a telemarketer calls you, especially one who has called you repeatedly, let them know that the person they're asking died 2 days ago and you're all in mourning. They'll stop calling, trust me. You may not have time for that, so the only other answer would be to get a phone like a VOIP phone (vonage.com or lingo.com), where you can allow calls only from phone numbers you specify.

Sorry where the hell do you live? Im not even on the do not call list and I get maybe 3 a year. Who are you allowing to sell your information? Seriously I get at most 3 a year and that is a stretch and im not on the do not call list. Stop allowing people to sell your information on the internet. Read that crap before you accept it.

Buy an air horn. Everytime you get a sales call give them a 5 second blast. They'll stop calling for sure!

Yes. It is called an answering machine, which device you do not pick up until you recognize the voice on the other end of the line.
