I don't think most people are against the bill. In fact, I seem to remember a poll that said most people are for it...

Are you implying that keeping the illegals out would necessitate raising taxes? I would prefer the higher taxes--I have nothing against Mexicans or Mexico, but I don't want the USA to become Mexico del Norte. Also, studies show that the poor use more in services than they pay in taxes--i.e., they cost the country money. Most of the illegals are poor. Also, some bring crime with them. We now have a very nasty gang in this country brought in by the illegals. And one of the reasons why the Mexican government can't generate enough prosperity to keep its people home is the power and ferocity of the drug gangs there. Do we really want them here? We're already funding them by buying their drugs; do we want the violence too?
No, amneste doesn't regulate immigration. The reason we have so many illegals here is because the government doesn't have the will or the ability to enforce the law. What makes anybody think that they will suddenly acquire the necessary balls if we legalize all the current illegals? Heck, they'll just vote amnesty for their newly-illegal buddies, too.
It's not stereotypes; it's trends and statistics. Nobody with a brain thinks that every illegal is hazardous to our national economy and identity. But in order to get rid of the bad ones, we have to get rid of them all, and let the good ones come back legally.

Yes, most American citizens are against the Amnesty Bill.
No, taxes are high enough, thank you for asking.
There was an Amnesty in '86, ultimately given to ~ 5 million illegal aliens, it promised to help regulate immigration. It didn't, in fact, by fueling hopes of a future Amnesty, it encouraged another 12 million it immigrate here illegally. And, lo & behold, another Amnesty.
I don't know why some do that, I find stereotyping to be of minimal rhetorical use. Generalizations are unavoidable, of course, when talking about 12 million people, but obvious stereotypes need not be mentioned, and, indeed, debunking them is sometimes helpful.

We have given very many facts, not just stereotypes. Amnesty increases, and does not 'regulate' immigration, which is why we are adamant that any amnesty be combined with factors that will actually virtually stop illegal immigration going forward. the 13% reduction the government projects from this bill added to doubled legal immigration and the incentive to come that an amnesty and 10 year rolling statute of limitations going forward would provide, does NOT constitute an acceptable vehicle for amnesty.

first of all i oppose anything that is closed to as amnesty. what i would do to take out the anesty out of this bill. is to have some certain immigrants having an opportunity to legalize like non criminals(not having a criminal record), immigrant children with gr8 grades, and tax payers. and a certain amont of time here in the u.s. like for 5 yrs. in this country. if those immigrants have all those qualities, they would go to the rigorous process of legalization and get in the back of the line and let those legal immigrants hav the opportunity first! and deport the rest of the ppl that dont have those qualities. and also really secure the border, not just the mexican border but also the canadian border! this would help period!

Unfortunately, we are already paying extra taxes to compensate for the medical system debacle with illegals using the system and not paying. Also having to pay more taxes for public schools so they can teach illegal's kids to speak english so they can participate in school. Insurance is taking a hit as well, as illegal's do not have auto insurance but still see fit to drive without it.
If you don't want to pay more, than fixing the illegal immigration issue is important. And amnesty is not the answer, as it only keeps these people here who are generally lower income, and can apply for more entitlements in conjunction with the current problems in healthcare, public education, and insurance.

Being hypocritical is a two edged sword.

Yes, I would be willing to pay a little more taxes, and even pay more for my produce at the market. The invasion just needs to be stopped. That's all there is to it.
