I've decided to do it, finally get a tat. I'm planning on getting a fleur de lis- the sign of french royalty. Placement on my shoulder about 2in long 2 inches wide. I know the pain "depends" I do hate needles for the simple fact that the nurses can never find my vein. Other than that not really scared. I wanted to know what some people might compare the pain to. What should I expect?

Actually your wrong it is not a sign of prostitution. It's french. It's also associated with Kappa Kappa Gamma for it's reprensation of grace and beauty. And it's a type of FLOWER!!! Moron.

The pain completely depends on where the tattoo is and of course on your personal pain level. The general rule is the more tissue the less pain. I have three tattoos, the one on my hip (the soft part, not the hip bone) was nearly painless, almost pleasant, it felt like an ant crawling over my skin. The one on my ankle was pretty painful, especially when it got to my heel, because there is virtually no tissue, only bones. If you are really scared there are lotions you can apply about one hour before your setting and they will numb your skin, I think the pain is part of the process so I didn't do it, but that is everyone's own decision. The pain in general is like being cut lightly with a HOT razorblade, you will survive it, and afterwards it's worth it!

Have you even fallen and skinned your knee or elbow, it's kinda like that.
It's nothing like getting a shot or blood test. (the needles don't go that deep)
Yeah, pain is definitely relative - Hannah (answer above me) said the tattoo on her ankle wasn't bad ... I just got one on my ankle Monday and I thought it hurt much worse than the one I have on my shoulder. I have 8 tattoos - and I am a major pain weenie - so if I could stand 8 of them it can't be too bad.

I have the same tattoo, but on my ankle. I was told that it would feel like scratching. To me, it tickled, but in a very annoying way. I'd imagine that on the shoulder it would hurt more since there isn't much fat there. Don't be afraid, it's worth it!

A lifetime of having something to hide.
P.S. The fleur de lis is actually symbolic of prostitution.
Maybe you should reconsider and do a little more
research.
