I looked up and called my old boyfriend that I dated on and off from the age of 14 to 19. He was shot in the leg when were sixteen and has since recovered. Now, he at 34, has nerve damage from the bullet wound and cannot walk well and his speech is slurred. He mind and memory is excellent, but he has slowed down alot. I have been talking to him on the phone and he has repeatedly asked me to be his girl and that he never stopped loving me. Now, I haven't seen him in 12 years and he lives in my hometown. I am going to visit him soon, but I am unsure if I would want to date him again. My feelings for him had never changed either but I am scared to see him and I am afraid that I am going to cry when I see him like that. Any suggestions?

It has been 12 years, go ahead and cry. Go see him and see what develops. My husband has a birth defect in his back and there are a few months a year that he can't even pick up his own son and that birth defect is why we never planned on having children. He didn't want to pass it on or not be able to play with his son and surprise we have a little boy. Most of parenting is done by example and what comes out of our mouths so keep that in mind if you are thinking that he may not be Daddy material.

A good, honest, loyal loving man is worth his weight in diamonds. Slurred speech and a limp or walk with crutches doesn't make the man, his heart does........

Face your fears and see him, definitely. Also, don't let your initial reaction be the yay or nay. Give it time and see how you feel.

I think you should date him. He may never have another girl to like him.
