If by portable dvd screens you are referring to the battery powered portable DVD players then my answer is no they shouldn't burn out in a short amount of time. I have had my portable DVD player for 1 1/2 years now and I have not had any problems with my screen - or anything else with the player. It's one of the best things I've bought.
