All I want is to see people of different religions, atheists and all others debating and talking, communicating ideas and discussing them. Is that so wrong? An intelligent debate about ideas, one that doesn't include insults against the people who have the ideas!

Am I dreaming when I think people should have well thought out answers, or at least sensible questions. Something that goes beyond a cut and paste quote, an insult or catch phrase?

It seems too much for Y/A. But why debate. I particularly don't like or discussing my religion with people who are not really interested in it. What is the purpose? If your actually curious, and not in a way so you can debate the points later or use them as proselytizing points, then I don't mind. But to just debate, there is really no purpose. However, if you are a different sect of the same religion, then there is much to discuss and maybe even debate because that does sharpen our own understanding of our minds and theories.

But I find so few people on Y/A actually asks real questions. They think they know the answer before the they hear it, so answering is mostly a waste of time.

Thanks for asking a real question.

You are dreaming if you aren't actively reporting them.

We live where we choose. If we close the blinds when a crime occurs, we will be victims of crime.

If you turn your eyes when someone abuses a child in public, then your child will be abused, in time, but someone.

What you are silent on decides what kind of life you will lead.

Besides, the trolls, the name-callers, the seditious, etc. all WANT you silent. How DARE you report them! There must be something wrong with YOU!

They lie. They deserve every report, they will always blame someone else, they think they are owed a platform to speak from. This is free. Yahoo! doesn't owe them

Neither do we. Speak up, everyone. There are no Yahoo! police to do it for you. Reporting is your way of taking out the trash.

Aparently, it is. I was just telling someone today that I don't have a problem with it if someone has chosen a different belief system than I have. What I do have a problem with is people who: 1. try to shove their belief system down a person's throat against their will. Or, 2, ridicule and disrespect others' beliefs just because they do not share it.

Welcome back to Kindergarten, where anyone who is "different" is the scapegoat. It's not "stupid" to have another belief system. It IS stupid to not be able to discuss things with a level of maturity beyond name calling and insults.

The problem is that some of us don't seem to understand that this is a question/answer board, what you're looking for is a debate messageboard. I suggest you find one. Not that you won't come across bashers and trolls there, but most messageboards have moderators that will get rid of them very quickly, leaving it open for real discussions. That's one reason we have so many bashers and trolls, no one here 24/7 to get rid of them.

Sometimes you just have to enjoy the good questions and good answers and ignore the rest. I have read some really good questions with lots of really thoughtful answers. Sometimes you have to approach this pretty lightly, or you will get frustrated, but over all I have had some good discussions and met some interesting people. You also have to keep your sense of humor!

Of course that would be wonderful, but I feel like this particular forum isn't set up this way. Its not a back and forth type of responses, its a question answer that only allows the questioner to usually set up a question that leads to a particular answer they're looking for (that agrees with their beliefs), then picks the one that agrees with their position as the best answer.

To answer your question, no.

What you want is for someone to answer the question being asked, with an answer that complies. Often people like to voice their opinion or agenda as part of answer and eventually wander away from answering the question itself.

To accomplish this, YA would have to work hard to prevent people from answering a question with a question or an irrelevant answer. They try, but they also want to allow people to have fun.

Unfortunately, those of us who yearn for intellectual debate and the constructive exchange of ideas will forever be outnumbered by those who just want to either condemn everyone to hell or condemn everyone who believes in God.
