Well, it depends. Some fighters, such as Olympic champions, earn good-sized guarantees when they turn professional. Some have backers to help cover expenses and living expenses until they hit the big time (see Joe Frazier's Cloverlay).

However, you generally have to work your way up from a handful of dollars in your first few, three-round bouts. Like many things, the system rewards the best well, but most are left with crumbs. It's a difficult business.

Actually, a pro debuting boxer or most other boxers on local shows get paid by the round. Here in New Mexico it's usually around 50-100 bucks per round (a 4 rounder). It is always negotiable, and the boxer and/or manager will negotiate for other things like tickets, travel and room expense etc. Unless you are an Olympian or something like that, you don't make much $ to start. But keep winning and pleasing the crowd, and you might get into the "Big $" one day!

the term proffesional, only means that someone boxes for money, unlike an ameteur, which does it for the sport, has nothing to do with there abilities. pro boxing is not like major legue sports, they don't recruit per say, and there is no starting pay, or set pay rates per match, popularity, the lcal ecomomy and interest etc effect the pay.. It all depends where you start at also, as in location and on what level. many box a few years for almost nothing, maybe $50 to get pummeled by someone higher up in the chain of wanna be superstars. It it a brutal road, and all have had them selves knocked around for a few rounds for chump change. It's very competitive on the lower tiers, to get any recognition, and try to get into the publics eye , to get noterity, You really got to love the abuse to stick it out. these guys are more like warriors than sportsmen.
