Like how Top Notch is the security in Area 51? Has anyone ever gone inside this site without permission?

Okay...from personal experience (USAF)...
You would be detected WELL before you ever got near Groom Lake. There is NO fence around Area 51. Two different things were talking about here. The research facility at Groom Lake and Area, Number 51 on the Nellis Range. I will not disclose security techniques, but you would be detected almost right away on any of the Nellis Ranges. No, its nothing crazy, just plain old technology doing its job. I would suspect that the actual facility has the same rules any other Air Force base has..."Use of Deadly Force Authorized". Nuff said.

On a clear day there were cameras 22,000 miles up that could photograph single Soviet vehicles to track missile sites. That goes back to the 60's. Combine capabilities like that with today's alarm detection devices and you can be detected long before you get very close. B/W CCTV cameras with LED lighting came out in the early 90's. Think of it as remote control night vision goggles.
I don't know what the policy is once you cross the line they have drawn but I do know that when I worked at Lawrence Labs (77-79) the UC Police (according to rumor control) were authorized to use deadly force at certain interior sites.
Today if you enter there at the service entrance you will be met by 6 guy's with M16s and bomb sniffing dogs. I would guess that LLL is well below what is used in NV.

There is a big fence which spans the property. Good luck getting through it or even near it.
