You can NOT ask other people to make that decision for you and you can not choose a dog based on other people's suggestions or on what a dog looks like. All dogs differ in temperament and personality and what works and appeals to some people may not to you. Since you have decided you want a dog what you need to do is research all the many breeds and chose one that is right for you that will fit in with your lifestyle.
Here is the link for the many different breeds on the akc wehttp://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breedsbsite.

Toy or Mini Poodle, non shedding but need pro grooming. Pug, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier, MinPin, depends on what you consider sm/med size. Dobes are very short haired so low shedders and some are laid back. Any breed if properly brought up can live with cats. Greyhounds are tall but very much couch potatoes and some are great with kitties. Many dogs are good in the house but love to run and romp at a dog park. One can find a laid back dog in any breed if you look carefully, try rescues as they live with the dogs so know alot about their personalities. Often top dog breeders have young dogs who washed out of the breed ring but are well behaved housedogs and they place them. Please consider the dog with an eye to the future so when you have kids the dogs doesn't get dumped as so many do. Obed train, neuter the dog, socialize, give him the proper food and exercise and he will be a great pet for many years. If you want kids take him around all age, well behaved kids ASAP so he learns kids are OK. A well trained dog can be an asset when one has kids, babysitter, diaper fetcher, playmate, just use common sense and always supervise them.

Shih Tzus do not shed and if u keep them in a puppy cut they dont have much up keep if u let the hair get long (it Will go down to the floor) it is a lot of upkeep brushing every day some time two times a day
they can have vary high energy levels but also like to veg out and relax

It's great that you are asking around before going out and getting one! I agree that the pug is lovely in terms of temperament. Sweet, cuddly, non-agressive towards other animals. Problem is that my pug sheds A LOT! She is also very curious and energetic. I would recommend a pomeranian but they bark a lot and i'm not sure about mixing them with kids. Maybe a beagle, check it out. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and i hope you find the right dog!

Well if you dont want a dog that is hyper and needs alot of attention then you should go to the pound and adopt an older dog because every puppy gets hyper and needs ALOT of attention. Try an older beagle maybe.

I think a good dog for you would be a Shizt- zu. They don't shed, they aren't aggressive, and, if raised with one, should get along with other animals pretty well. They are a pretty small dog. They have teacup. But I would go check out a breeder or a shelter to look at them. But you do have to tend to their coat. It can get pretty long if not groomed. Hope I helped! :]

In my life filled with dogs, I have found only one breed I fell in love.
A Basset hound.
Good with children and cats? - EXTREMELY GOOD! I can't even explain how good they are.
Play with the kids and not hurt them? - Of course. A Basset attacking a kid? Haha, that'll be the day.
Live inside? - Sure why not? They love laying by the fire or laying by your side on the couch.
Easy train? - Uh-huh. Only if you work with it like every other dog.
A dog that will come when we call it? - Well, any dog will come when you call it if its trained.
Take it places; boating and fishing? - Of course. My youngest Basset LOVES going fishing. And my eldest bassets loves swimming. my middle..eh, she prefers just watching.
They are such great dogs. I have been around them since I was 5. I remember when I was 5 and our family got our first Basset...I wanted something like a German Shepherd or a Lab or a Golden...something. But, I got a Basset. It took me a while to realize how great a Basset is compared to all the others. I use to jump on him, climb on him, lslide with him, sing with him (his howl reminded me of an old man singing), swim with him, everything. And I was just a little kid. He never once bit or attacked me. He never even growled.
They are really gorgeous dogs too. They have long body, short legs, droopy eyes, long ears, etc. They are adorable. You are starting to see more and more of Basset Hounds.
They are hilarious too. Having a bad day? No worries. Any Basset will cheer you up in a heart beat. They are full of character. I knew a Basset Hound puppy who use to pretend he was riding a skate board. He use to sit on it expecting it to move on its own or something. It was really quite funny..here's a picture of it if you dont believe me. He did it ALL the time. So snapping a picture was no problem.

Many people say they are couch potatoes...ha, they're not. Well...I guess they can be. Really it depends up to you. Are you a lazy person who watches tv and sits on the computer all day? Well they will be lazy too. Are you a adventerous person who takes hikes and walks? They'll be right at your side.
Very loyal dogs they are.
I really hope I helped.

Okay you are looking at this wrong. You need a dog that is good for apartments regardless of size.
Look up Japanese Akita's (short haired)
