you sound like you are doing a lot of the right things, however, you are missing a few key ingredients to success:
1. cardio exercise is the way to lose weight (the best is running, biking, swimming (especially good for abs)rock climbing, hiking, etc.). you have to do 20-30 minutes a day as hard as you can and then do some sit-ups or whatever IMMEDIATELY AFTER (the more you are sweating the more each one of those sit-ups are going to do) you do the cardio then you will be building muscle and trimming fat, if you dont break a sweat, you are only going to add muscle and although that will build you up, it will not allow you to lose weight.
2. Keep drinking water, and even more if you can. The more water you drink the more weight you will lose. 8-10 glasses a day i think is a pretty good start.
3. Cutting out fatty foods is important but you want to avoid trans-fats more than anything. Don't fast, not eating is not the way to lose weight. Make sure you stay away from too much carbs, except whole wheat bread, oatmeal, melba toast, etc.these are the carbs you want; they are complex carbohydrates and whole wheat has more fiber and will keep you feeling full longer.
4.Avoid too much sugar (especially high fructose corn syrup, it's in everything but you can avoid it if you read the labels).
5. Eat as early as possible. Eat a good breakfast, and a healthy breakfast, I like special k w/ red berries. not only is it delicious it is very healthy and get some skim milk and pour it on/in. Never eat right before you go to bed.
6. Plan ahead and eat small meals frequently, people who don't eat breakfast or skip meals tend to overeat and then make themselves to full since they were starving themselves. Your best bet is eating at least 3 if not like 5 small healthy meals that will fulfill your hunger, then you wont find yourself feeling hungry at 2 am and getting fast food. this probably means going to the supermarket and getting lots of healthy stuff.
7. Get enough protein. However you can do it. protein bars, soy, tofu, whatever. Make sure it's good protein, it doesnt have to be red meat every night, but be aware that you're getting enough protein.
8. Keep a positive attitude, believe in yourself and take your goals seriously and you will achieve them.
9. Get somebody to work out with or eat right with or both. there is strength in numbers.
10. If you do as many of these things as possible there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to easily lose 10 pounds before school. Good luck, I know you can do it.

You seem to be doing everything right so far! :D
Try to avoid starchy / sugary foods at night (or 3 hours before you go to bed, whatever). Drink some more water (you need more like 8 cups). Eat more vegetables and fruits, try to eat more natural stuff. Don't deprive yourself of all snack foods that you like though; you can have like ice cream, but remember to just have small portions.
When you walk or jog, try to make it around 30-45 minutes long, but if you can't do that, just keep walking and you should be able to soon enough. And plus it's summer, go swimming! Swimming is a great overall exercise.
I'm going to be a sophomore in Sept. too, so good luck! :]

You're doing good! I would suggest more water and more sit-ups.
Also, mix up your exercise activities. Sometimes the body might get used to walking all the time that it won't burn as much calories as it used to.
Maybe walk/jog twice a week. Then swim (do laps ofcourse, not just swim for fun) for an hour.
Also, you can go to the gym, if you have a membership, and try out different machines like the stairmaster, elliptical, and the bikes.
These really help!
I've done it all before. =]

Cut bad eating habits, eat healthy, get exercise and stay mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically healthy. You don't have to be skinny, but become healthy and you will be in the best condition before school starts.
Cleaning the house to your maximum capacity and jogging every morning helps you lose pounds. Healthy eating is important (eat your greens). Also, if you like video games, play Dance Dance Revolution as a substitute (you burn so much calories by playing it). That's what I did for 2 months and I am close to losing 30 pounds.

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
sit ups only build muscle -they do not burn any fat.
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Keep up what you're doing. But make sure you eat. Don't start starving yourself. And eat healthy stuff. Also, after dinner if you have a healthy dessert and there's a dessert you really want, go ahead and just eat the one you really want but watch how much you eat. You'll be better off because if you eat the healthier one that you don't want as much you may end up eating the healthier one AND the unhealthy one. Also, when you're excersizing, try doing things you like rather than things you think will be more effective. Running probably burns more calories than swimming, but if you like swimming better then just swim a lot more than you would if you run. You'll enjoy yourself and burn fat. If you just run instead, you'll get tired of it and you won't feel as good afterwards.

Your body is still growing, so cutting out foods with fat is actually making you fatter! How can this be you ask? Your body is still in it's growth and maturing stages, if you do not consume a recommended amount of fat, your body goes into starvation mode. That's not to say you should down at least one big mac a week...it is to say, butter your toast in the morning, with real butter (not that hydrogenated crap margerine) do have mom's pork chops for dinner (provided she's using olive oil...again, not hydrogenated) Fat isn't your enemey, sugar and excessive eating is.

You do not need to lose any weight at that height and weight. Dont focus on trying to lose weight. Exercise more, and aim for fitness. A healthy weight will come naturally, but dont obsess over it. Thats how dangerous eating habits happen.

take a walk every morning, not a long walk, just a ten minute walk around your neighborhood and that ought to burn calories for you. Or do some chores in the house, doing chores should burn calories and give you a clean house! =P
